It was just announced on my local news channel that our Gov. made an agreement with Mexico City to hire teachers for our local schools. The new teachers will be paid 8,000 more than "American" teachers and will be given a moving compensation package. Since when is this right? He, the Gov, claims that it will bring more Hispanic parents to conferences and boost the overall education of the Hispanic students. Utah already spends less per students than any other state, so why do we need to "import" our teachers? Does my son really have to pay the price? He is currently in a 90% hispanic school that uses dual immersion (half the class in Spanish, and the other half in English--covering the same material)? Isn't this breaking some national law?

Let me add that the new teachers will be paid 38,000 a year for a 3 year contract. We have four colleges that churn out licensed teachers every year, and yet we have to pay more to import.
