SO many people in my science class think it is real...and I disagree. I want to know if it IS real...and if you have any proof. (I mean, don't just say "look at the glaciers", 'cause I already heard that.)

Global warming theory hinges entirely on computer models to reconstruct past global climate and predict future outcomes. Not that there is anything against computer models, but they are not perfect. And any TRUE scientist will tell you that you cannot derive "fact", "undeniable truth", "virtually certain", etc, from computer models. The same can be said of statistical analysis. Your instincts to be skeptical serve you well when people are railroading you with claimed facts. Nothing in science is certain.

How many are being misled:
Misrepresenting scientific consensus - just as was said above.

Telling you that if you don't believe in man-made global warming, then you don't care about the environment or your fellow man.

Implying that you have to believe because there is so much risk - that to believe otherwise sentences you to almost total doom.

Claiming that you have nothing to lose by accepting their solution - all of a sudden, they've switched from being science experts to experts of economics, sociology, and policy.

Playing sides: conservative vs liberal, rich vs poor, young vs old, religious vs agnostic, educated vs uneducated.

Making you feel like you are in the minority.

And there are several more without even getting into the specific science of the matter.

But I'll leave you with a few scientific exclusions that are allowed to be propogated:
No one knows exactly how much of our heat comes from the global warming effect. If you were to ONLY talk to global warming proponents, the variation of answers you would get is greater than the supposed increase of global temperature.

Water vapor plays THE largest role in global warming. Period. No other gas is EVEN CLOSE. Yet, you would think that CO2 is the most powerful. Water vapor accounts for around 90% (some even say 95%) of the global warming effect.

Man does not put out the most CO2 on the planet. CO2 is already in the low single digits in terms of greenhouse effect - it is even lower when you factor in how little man contributes. But wait...we can reduce our contribution, but we can never get it down to zero. So, if you take into account only the portion of CO2 we can feasibly "remove" from the global, then we are talking less than a percent of the entire greenhouse effect.

Without man's presence on Earth, CO2 increases as global sea temperature increases. It is very possible that increased temperature can account for almost all of the increase in atmospheric CO2.

And so on, and so on..

Why aren't the glaciers proof enough for you?

There is so much overwhelming evidence that global warming is happening that its amazing to me that you would not believe it is true.
Doesn't it just make sense that with all of us humans buring sooooooo much stuff, rainforests, oil, gas, wood. That the balance of the Earth would be changing, how could it not.
The biggest proof for me was seeing the measurements of carbon in the ice core, on An Inconvenient Truth. The levels we are at now are over twice as much as they have been in the last 650,000 years! Thats a long time. And we certainly more populated and burning more stuff now than we ever have in the past.

If trees make the air, and we keep cutting the trees down, and putting more pollution into the air, doesn't it make sense that those gases would be up in the atmosphere, creating a barrier that holds in heat?

The answer is that we don't know.
While there is a "warming trend" it may be part of a NATURAL cycle that has nothing to do with manmade emissions. The CO2 levels quoted to us by Gore may be inaccurate. There is an interesting article in the Canada Free Press which I included a link to down below so please everyone read.

Here is what a NASA Scientist said recently:

NASA ADMINISTRATOR MICHAEL GRIFFIN NOT SURE THAT GLOBAL WARMING IS A PROBLEM Some much for consensus
May 30, 2007; Washington, DC – NASA Administrator Michael Griffin tells NPR News that while he has no doubt “a trend of global warming exists, I am not sure that it is fair to say that it is a problem we must wrestle with.” In an interview with Steve Inskeep airing tomorrow on NPR News’ Morning Edition, Administrator Griffin says “I guess I would ask which human beings - where and when - are to be accorded the privilege of deciding that this particular climate that we have right here today, right now is the best climate for all other human beings. I think that’s a rather arrogant position for people to take.”

Doesn't look like the one's in NASA agree with each other..

Here is an email a friend who is a scientist sent me:

This article shows that the global warming types cherry picked C02 designed to support their warming claims. Real results look nothing like Gore's smoothly rising graph. As the saying goes, "Nothing more convincing than a cleverly rigged demo".

New paper by Beck in Energy and Environment shows the pre-industrial levels of C02 50 ppm higher than the warming types are using in their models to predict all sorts of dire consequences.

Basically jury is still out if C02 levels are elevated at all and no basis that we had anything to do with it..

Its debatable, IMO, if they can even measure temperature and C02 levels with any accuracy at all.. One thing that is true...Garbage is being fed into their models...will always give garbage out... which is exactly what is happpening.

My prediction: the global warming deal will turn out to be the biggest most expensive science fraud in history..

Warming up..maybe...us having anything to do with it...big scam! Hold tight to your wallets folks, the scientist types are trying to empty them...

I believe global warming is real, and the news I see shows a 'major change' is occurring. Indeed, glaciers are melting, I have a sister who lives in Alaska so I sort of hear from the beginning. I read a daily newspaper and see little news information about the coastal shores of Bangladesh flooding, deepest they ever have.
I believe changes do occur, and am somewhat surprised they are occurring in this lifetime, not as something to read of in National Geographic magazine.

The truth is if these changes continue the way they are happening, it definitely will result in some kind of a massive climatic catastrophe and what will be the out come of that no one has a conclusive proof about it. But what matters is if we are resposible then why not to take measures, when we still have time .... if we really have it.
Or do we have to wait for the conclusive proof by experiencing some kind of Global Tradgey and only then awaken.

Don't feel some thing you learn and handiest one million/two of what you spot. Of path, Global warming is truly. The final Ice age has long past away, has it now not? So, we ought to have international warming. Do individuals give a contribution to international warming? Probably a few small quantity, in spite of everything we ARE Warm and we breath in oxygen and breath out CO2, we ought to be aspect of the trouble. What is Al Gore going to do approximately it? Kill a complete lot of individuals? Invariably that's what Socialists do after they take manipulate of a nation. Is that bigger than destroying their economic climate and inflicting hundreds of thousands to starve to dying?

No, it is an outright lie, lead by fools and charlatans who hope to scare the American public into destroying our ecomny. I base this on the following facts that any 5th grader can easily check out if they really want to know the truth, instead of being lead by the nose like a complete fool.
1. The alarmist claim that burning fossil fuels is the cause of recent warming, however most of the warming took place before most of the increase of CO2. There was actually a significant cooling period from the mid-1940s to the late 1970s, while CO2 was increasing rapidly, and there was another increase from 1979 to 1998. In fact there has been no warming since 1998 – an eight-year period, and even a slight statistically cooling, despite the fact that CO2 has continued to rise.
2. The correlation between co2 emissions effecting global warming is extremely small compared to the correlation between global temperature and sun cycles. The sun cycles affect temperature in two ways first by the cycling up and down of actual heat energy that is emitted by the sun. This has a small effect on global temperature. The more important one is cycling in solar winds. Solar wind blocks cosmic radiation from coming into the Earth’s atmosphere. The more cosmic rays come in the more low level clouds there are and low-level clouds reflect solar heat energy back into space. If there are more clouds the earth is cooler and if there are fewer clouds, the earth is warmer. As solar wind cycles up cosmic rays cycle up and down in reverse and clouds up and down. So the solar window is very important to earth’s temperature, but you will not change.

that it is real is not an issue any more ,even skeptics agree that is exists

Go see the desserts in Mexico,Asia ,and Africa
check how many thousands of people have already died related to global warming
check the low lands that are already flooded
the North pole is melting
Green land is getting green again.
the south pole has lost ice arms that had names ,they had been there for so long .
Animals and insects are dying because of small changes in temperatures ,

What kind of proof are you looking for ,does it have to sit on your nose ,in your street .

What the arguments are is how serious is it ,who is responsible , can we do anything about it
or will it just go away again.

And people will be arguing about that untill they go up in flames

I would like to hear the basis of your disagreement ,you say you disagree but you fail to mention why .

The argument against man made Global Warming was over 8 years ago when the UN stated emphatically in 1999 that Global Warming is real and caused by human activity.

For proof you could try the CIAS supercomputer which is used to model long term climate effects, or you can go to the Hadley Center website for a lot more information and the data upon which they based that decision (link given).

The temperature of the oceans have gone up one degree C in the last 30 years. That is the equivalent energy to 1.3 billion atom bombs. The models project that the temperature will rise 3-5 degrees in the next 50 years. That is the same as saying that the effects of global warming on weather patterns in your lifetime will represent the same amount of energy as a one megaton atom bomb for every man, woman and child on the planet.

Glaciers melting is buffing the effects of Global Warming, it takes one calorie to raise one cc of water one degree C. It takes 80 calories to melt one cc of ice to water without changing temperature, that is known as latent heat of fusion.

They won't last forever. Then the temperature will really start to rise. That may happen in as little as 10 years based on current models.

When there are no more polar icecaps and the equator becomes uninhabitable, will you still disagree? 1/3 of the north pole gone already isn't enough to convince you yet? It's the first time in world history that a change has happened that extreme and that rapidly. Of course global warming is real. The biggest mystery I have is 'where does all this lack of concern come from? Maybe it's conservative media propaganda. I don't know.

How about this one:
Is smog and acid rain real?
Is it man made or naturally occurring by nature?

No matter how much evidence is brought to the table, there will always be groups who are led by their peers who plug their ears of anything that's not popular with them. It's like sheep being led by sheep with partisan blinders on.

What's Known
Scientists know with virtual certainty that:

Human activities are changing the composition of Earth's atmosphere. Increasing levels of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere since pre-industrial times are well-documented and understood.
The atmospheric buildup of CO2 and other greenhouse gases is largely the result of human activities such as the burning of fossil fuels.
A warming trend of about 0.7 to 1.5°F occurred during the 20th century. Warming occurred in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, and over the oceans (NRC, 2001).
The major greenhouse gases emitted by human activities remain in the atmosphere for periods ranging from decades to centuries. It is therefore virtually certain that atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases will continue to rise over the next few decades.
Increasing greenhouse gas concentrations tend to warm the planet.
