I want to get a maltese and I read they are hard to house break, does that mean I can't get one to use a doggy litter box?

Oooohh. No doggie litter! I have a male Maltese ad he was very easy to train. And very smart.
He used to like to hang out in the cats litter box when he was younger but we put it where he cant get to it but the cats can. The litter stuck in his hair and made him stinky
Two walks a day an a few "out the doors" and he is a happy dog.

You have to housebreak your puppy in general before you can teach him to use a doggy litter box. I have had Maltese and jack Russel's. Do you and your dog a favor and use a kennel cage. This helps your dog get housebroken faster AND keeps him from destroying your house while your gone! this breed will chew everything while you are gone.

We have to Papillons that use a doggie litter box with great success. Don't use regular kitty litter. It will stick in their hair. Use Bedding Pellets instead.. You can get them at Southern States. Our dogs ring a bell to go outside, but when we are not home they have a place to go. We didn't even have to train them to use it. We just put it down and they started using it from day one.

little dogs are usually more stubborn. Instead of a doggy lttler box, get puppy pads. put them where the dogs favorite place is to go for the first night. Each night move it towards the back door. Prase the dog everytime she does what she is suppose to and pay attention to her. When she is acting like she needs to go, pick her up and tell her outside, then take her. She will get it, but you need to watch her.

In general the smaller the dog the harder to housebreak. But training one to use an inside area can help as they always have access to it. If neutered young they often do not pick up the territory marking habits that both dogs and bitches do..

Yes! We have one, but got it after it was an adult. It is now seven and still pees on the rug. I would advise against the potty pads for a dog. They need to learn to pee outside like a dog.

the indisputable fact that a maltese is small makes them extra liable to injuries. be careful in case you enable her play around different canines as they are in a position to be tough on one among those small canines. be confident to socialise her properly so she isn't petrified of different canines. learning this breed in the previous you desperate to get possible have been a sturdy theory too, yet sturdy success!
