I think that humans evolved from apes. Apes evolved from other primates who evolved from earlier mammals who evolved from early chordates who evolved from simpler animals who evolved from basic multi-cellular organims who evolved from single-celled eukaryotes who evolved from prokaryotes who evolved from protobionts.
Now I'm sure your going to ask, "If that's true, where did the protobionts come from?" If you truly want to know, just look up the term "abiogenesis." It's too complicated for me to explain in this tiny box and wikipedia has more information about it than I do. (I'd also recommend looking up the Urey-Miller Experiment.)
Please consider this: You are essentially arguing that that it's irrational to believe that simple organisms were created by chance in an environment with the right conditions for such reactions, whereas the belief that God came into existence on his own is perfectly reasonable. If you can take the leap of faith and say that the formation of an omnipotent god is possible, surely you can accept the idea that the formation of RNA in a lipid bubble is also possible.
Abiogenesis is at least as valid as Genesis.

Personally, I think the correct answer is evolution through God. But that's just me.
I'm not an expert in any kind of biology, let alone the theory of evolution. However, if you research this matter, you can find the basic cascade of evolution. Science does not have all the answers yet, but even if you aren't inclined to believe it, its interesting how completely different kinds of animals can be similar genetically.
The theory of evolution is not just about us. Science doesn't say ... "okay, all of a sudden there were apes, and that's where we came from." Its a theory about the formation of all species, not just ours. You should check out a book or read some valid websites.
I think that if you DON'T believe something, you should understand exactly why you don't believe it.

All life on earth evolved from small single celled organisms that lived in the sea.
gee that was easy, I thought this was going to be a hard question.

Before you ask a question like this, it would help to avoid looking unprepared by at least doing SOME research on evolution. Hint: evolution does NOT say we evolved from apes. Now, to answer your question - no matter what, we're all left w/ the mystery of existence: First Cause. This first cause is too often narrowly defined by fundamentalists who mock its greatness by making it into a petty ego that rewards, punishes, and, well, behaves like a human ego. Those VERY VERY few who have directly experienced this mystery and the divine come away with something COMPLETELY different than what fundies in all these religions say.

Ok here we go.
Conditions became stable for there to be life on earth. Single celled organisms appeared. They evolved into micro-organisms, like zooplankton, those organisms evolved into tiny fish, fish got bigger, then fish became amphibious. The amphibious split into two directions, the mammals and the reptiles. The reptiles grew very large very quickly, and became dinosaurs, and because of the reptiles dominance the mammals stayed small, and were ground dwellers. When the dinosaurs became extinct the mammals had their chance to grow. Eventually it came to the point of the common ancestor between us and apes, and that's why we're here today.

I think that God caused the big bang and used evolution to create life.
Evolution is a valid, proven scientific theory that has been supported by numberous tests, it is just as good as the theory of gravity. The Bible doesn't say HOW God created life, therefore, it doesn't have to be God or evolution.God bless.

First I was a polywog just a swimmin' in the sea
Then I was a alligator just a eatin' birds n bees
Then I was a monkey just a swingin' from a tree
Now Im a evolutionary biologist with my PHD
Thats what they believe! Oh I forgot one thing..
before the polywog.. In the beginning.... nothing evolved into something .....
God did it in 6 days!

God made the first life forms over 5 billion years ago, and commanded them:
THOU SHALT EVOLVE
So lets put this tired debate to rest now, OK?

You're not asking about evolution, you're asking about the entire scientific field of abiogenesis. There's been amazing progress in recent years. If you want more info, elevensixone@yahoo.com
