He used to want one but he suddenly changed his mind.
Anybody want to tell me positive things about ferrets to pass on to him to help him change his mind again?

He has a say in this because we live together and make decisions as a couple. And I refuse to trade sex for a ferret, that is demeaning.

The last person seems to be the only one here who actually knows something about ferrets.

First of all I'm somewhat bothered by the fact that this question is under the rodents section. Ferrets are much closer genetically to cats and dogs than they are rodents, and this shows in their intelligance and personallity.

The smell of ferrets is completely overstated. Modern ferrets themselves don't smell any worse than cats or dogs because of the breeding practices (they are fixed and also get the smell glands removed). The worst smell of ferrets is their pee, and poop if it builds up. Just don't be a disgusting person who doesnt clean litter boxes and you'll be just fine.

I have also never had a ferret destroy anything, bite in anger, or anything like it. They scratch surfaces a lot, but lets face it, they're bodies arent capable of doing any real damage to MOST things. A leather couch is the only thing i could think of them being able to do any damage, and that would be after a long period of non supervised activity.

Ferrets are very inquisitive, they love to search and crawl in small holes, so anything dangerous that they may get in to needs to be kept shut.

They also love to steal and hide things, luckily I know where both of mines hiding spots are so I know where to look when something is missing. I once found 37 missing socks while cleaning.

My ferrets also enjoy watching TV and jumping on to my shoulders. That is something they kind of developed on their own.

One thing that is most important about ferrets is that they love to play. That is about all they do, they will run around, hop very happily, and wear you out. They will also get bitey when playing, for the most part they know how to not bite hard but sometimes you have to just give them a little tap on the nose to help train them. It's no differant than a puppy learning to play.

They are by far the most entertaining pets I've ever had, and I've had a lot.

Kudo's to GreenEyedHawk and Nick C. These two actually know what they are talking about. I'd like to mention something you should consider, even though you might not like it.
You are with a boyfriend. Perhaps he won't be your boyfriend forever; he might be your husband, or he might be gone. If you are gone for a week and your ferret gets sick/ dissapears, is your 'not interested in ferrets' boyfriend going to react in time to help/save your ferret? Time is very critical for ferrets in most situations. If your boyfriend doesn't like them in the first place, do you really trust them to go find a ferret knowledgeable vet when something goes wrong? Will he know when something is wrong? Would you like your own ferret looked after by someone who would rather stay absorbed in his PlayStation game than find out why your ferret is trying to go poop 6 times in a row, but nothing comes out? I'm sorry for distrusting your boyfriend, but if someone doesn't like, or isn't interested in your pets, then they probably aren't going to take any interest in helping them out if something goes wrong.
Second point is this: since you're living with a boyfriend, I'm assuming that your house/apartment can change if the boyfriend situation changes. If in the future you have to move, what are the chances you'll be able to find a pet friendly place to move to? I see too many people surrender their ferrets because they moved and they can't take their pets to the new place. For the sake of your ferret, does he deserve that?
I would caution you on taking on a ferret if your life is not very stable; and I'm not trying to say there is anything wrong with your life as it is. It's just that things can change rapidly, and usually the pets suffer. Do you know that ferrets can bond very strongly? Do you know that ferrets feel stress and can develop ulcers and even die?
Sorry for this negative sounding answer. I just want you to think about the safety of an animal in the company of someone who doesn't want it there.

Well, first do not forget this: are you going off to tuition quickly? Would you've gotten ample time for a ferret? Well, if you'll be able to, exceptional! But if you happen to can not, perhaps wait till you get out of tuition. I placed in combination a significant presentation approximately ferrets and stated it to them infrequently. I raised the entire cash, too. I feel you're at the proper monitor. Good good fortune with the convincing!

Bathing a ferret every day will make it smell worse, for an above poster. It dries out their skin and causes the oil glands in their skin to go into overdrive, producing tons of iol and more smell.

If you keep their cages clean, clean their litterbox daily and get them the correct type of high-sided litterbox that is meant for ferrets, they aren't messy or smelly. I own three in a one-bedroom apartment, their cage is central in my livingroom and my place does not smell ferrety at all.

I suggest looking for a ferret club or association in your area. There will be plenty of people there who can help you decide if you want one or not and help convince your partner to get one. Most importantly though, you can cuddle and get to know other people's ferrets and show your partner how gorgeous they are!

Positive things about having a ferret - They're cute. They can be trained to use the kitty box. They can be trained to not bite.
Negatives of having a ferret - They're filthy in the potty box. They scootch up on the sides and poop up the wall.
They smell bad, even the one's that are fixed, and you have to give them a bath every day.
They get into the smallest of hiding places and you can't find them for days. They get in the couch cushions, you sit down, and it's suffocated and you didn't even know it.
They aren't very personable. They like to do what they want to do and that's it.

You should get one! If you guys are living togeather then I see why he wants to 'make the decision as a couple'. Maybe he just dosn't want one in the\his house. Some people sadly just don't like critters in their house. If you have your own house\apartment get one. It shouldn't matter to him if its at your place.

Hate to break it to you, but there is nothing good about ferrets, I'll list why

They smell awful

They escape cages easily

They destroy furniture

They look funny

And this one is the weirdest but I assure you it is true, my cousin had a ferret and it climbed into the toilet and down into the drain system, where it got stuck, died, and had to get removed, costing them hundreds of dollars.
