Wouldn't it be nice if the dog takes off after a squirrel and you give the command "stop" and it does? Wouldn't you also think that you could teach the dog this command if you knew how? So where would you go to learn? A good obedience class? Yep! I is just that simple.

When you take your dog out on a leash, he should be only focused on you. If he gets distracted by a bird or squirrel, pull on the leash and make a loud sound. This will break the his concentration on the chase. Soon, he will begin to associate this sound with dicipline, so you need to be consistant and do the same every time.

You might try getting a Halti to use instead of attaching the leash to his collar. Whrn you pull on the halti, it brings their head around to face you.

Sounds like he found his calling. If he's not getting hurt and not hurting you, let him do it. All dogs want a purpose and need a "job". One of my dogs is a 24 hour patrol officer both in the house and out of the house. Our Great Dane (Moose) is a professional autistic child impersonator. If he had a job, he'd require a protective vest and helmet.
