The only answer for this is in scripture--so even though I realize atheists don't like Christians quoting the Bible, here goes: "The Lord saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time. The Lord was grieved that He had made man on the earth, and His heart was filled with pain. So the Lord said, "I will wipe mankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth--men and animals, and creatures that move along the ground, and birds of the air--for I am grieved that I have made them." Genesis 6:5-7 NIV

He will not DELETE his creation! We will all live here on earth! A perfect earth just like it was during the time of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.

He wanted to make a perfect Woman, not a perfect Man (Christians believe God is a Man).
She wanted to make a perfect Man, not a perfect Woman (In Hebrew, the word for God is feminine).

God didnt delete anyone. He killed them in the flood (the went to Hell, and werent deleted), but we are HIS creations so its in His "rights" or whatever you want to call them. God doesnt make the mistakes. humans do.

He doesn't ctrl + alt + delete His creation, He just puts them in the recycling bin. they clutter up the desktop you know. how else is He supposed to make the 'man' folder larger? if He wipes the harddrive, that'd be terrible. if He tried to upgrade the system, then He would have to make a major reajustment to the man folder, especially the atheist/agnostic file...

A perfect god would end the existence of his children upon whom he bestowed his gift of free will if they so truly willed it. It would Never be a mistake to have given them the option to have existed if they so would have chosen differently.
We are free will entities, and the decision is given to us.

We screwed it up, He didn't.
He is going to make a NEW heaven and a NEW earth, so maybe this is a collosal remodelling program.

He is Mercy, but He is still Just.
We merit punishment when we resolve to ignore, disbelieve and degrade His Being.
It's all relative.
