You can buy whatever you forget over there, so don't worry about it too much. That being said, take whatever you can as everything over there is expensive.
I wouldn't bring towels as kids like to buy them there. They like the ones with pictures on them, it's a nice souvenir. Bring sunblock and plenty of it. Not only is it very expensive, but you use a lot of it. The sun is brutal in Hawaii, and you don't want to ruin your vacation with sun burn. Bring two swimsuits as you are in the water everyday. It keeps you from having to wear a wet bathing suit. Hats and cheap sunglasses are useful. Same with sandals, however cheap flip flops are easy to find and very cheap there.
Like I said, don't worry too much it's not like you are headed to a deserted island.

Depends largely on how long you are staying and where you are staying. If you're at a hotel or a B&B, they usually provide beach towels. And you can buy one over there for the kids to take home - makes a great souvenir. If you're renting a condo, they will have towels and also a washer/dryer setup so you can run a load of towels through after dinner
Don't bother about sunblock and stuff. They have tons of it there and it's easier to buy it there than pack it along. That stuff is messy if it leaks into your suitcase!
Bathings suits? Two each if you're staying for a while. Otherwise one will do. Most people wear flip flops, so you don't have to get very fancy on shoes. Bring along one casual dress up outfit, if you want to go out for dinner or whatever. A camera is good, or you can pick up those little disposable cameras if you'd rather not take a good one to the beach.
DO bring sunhats, and sunglasses. There are lots of great activitities that will keep kids happy -- like the zoo and the Kodiak Bowl shows - but you do need to make sure they cover up during the heat of the day.
Other than that - a credit card will cover everything else, and there really isn't very much else. People dress very casually, live in shorts, tee shirts and comfy cotton shirts.
Aloha!

make sure every one has at least one/two bathing suits (or you can buy extra at any ABC store there on Oahu. Usually your hotel has towels that are for the purpose of taking them to the beach, or at the hotel pool.
sunblock/sunscreen can be purchased there. You can ask the person at the ABC store which type would be best for the children and you.Which SPF would serve the purpose!
Also, make sure the boys wear a white t-shirt in the water!! The sun is very brutal between 10 a.m and 2p.m. Before they put on the t-shirt, load them down with the sunscreen on their chest, backs, arms and legs! Also do the same with the girls!! My son got a really bad sunburn from not wearing a t-shirt the second year we went. My husband got a bad one the first year. So make sure everyone has that sunscreen on them!!!!
You can buy flip-flops there really cheap, unless you already have some.
anything else, you can buy at any ABC store!
Have fun!!

You don't need to bring your own towels with you (as hotels usually provide pool towels and you can use those). As far as sunblock, bring it with you or buy it when you get here at ABC (which are everywhere). As far as number of swimsuits, bring 2 for each person swimming. That way they can have one drying and wear one (or just make sure to rinse and dry it well overnight each night if you only have 1).
Bring what you think you'll need........if you forget something or don't want to bring it with you, you can pick it up when you get here. Hawaii is just like your home......just more expensive with lots of sunshine!
Happy travels!

If you don't like putting on a wet suit, bring one extra for each person. You can (and probably will) buy beach towels there. Try to pack very light. You only need shorts, t-shirts, sandals and clean underwear. And a camera! But just get the recyclable ones.
