Use baking soda in the cat boxes! Put a THICK layer of it in the box BEFORE you add the litter, then also put some on top of the litter (the cats will "mix" it for you). It will HELP but still wont eliminate the odor completely.
"OUST" air freshener also helps b/c it takes odors OUT of the room instead of just covering them up... its helped me w/ cat AND smoke odors.
The only other thing that I can suggest and its really the ONLY thing that will actually work, is to CONTINUOUSLY clean your litter box! I'm talking 3x a day! When I lived in my fathers basement, I cleaned the box in the morning before work, as soon as I got home from work, and right before I went to bed. I put it all in grocery bags, tied em up and took them out EVERY TIME! It kept the smell OUT!!
Good luck and I hope that helps a bit!

My kitty box smelled so we got an enclosed litter box. The box has an air filter at the top so smell doesnt get out and a little swinging door - it only cost $15 bucks at Kmart. And we put baking soda on the bottom of the box too . . . plus we get those litter bags that you put under the kitty litter - that way it is super easy to change the cat litter(they are also very inexpensive. We scoop it every couple of days(we just have one cat - if you have more then you may wanna scoop daily!) But our box doesnt smell one bit, in fact it is right next to the computer desk and you cant smell a thing! And the kitty loves the privacy, she uses it to hide from the dog or visitors if there are too many =) Hope this helps!

Tidy cats scoopable with the crystals. It is worth the extra cost, trust me! Then you have to sift it as often as you can. Get a litter box that had a hood, that helps. Alot of cheap litters will still emit that ammonia smell from the urine. If you get a good litter it will soak it up really well and it will not stink, even when you are sifting the clump out. If you think about it, you are NOT really saving much money with cheap litter. It doesn't clump right and you end up tossing all the litter in the box away and go through more. With the better litter you are just removing what being used and the rest is still good. At least sift every other day. It will make all the difference to other people. Also put alot of litter in a hooded box and the cats will have more digging room and can really bury it so its not on the surface. GL!

Make sure you don't, do not use any plastic cat box liners, they make the smell worse. Baking soda added to the litter in between changes also helps. How often do you change the litter. Once a week is the minimum time, twice if you can afford it. Another reason cat urine stinks is if the cat you have is male and hasn't been neutered. Marcia W

The best thing to do is use scoopable litter and scoop every day at least once. Wash the box and change the litter every week. You can use baking soda mixed in with the litter to help absorb smells. Also, use air fresheners that help deodorize. Ultimately, theres no substitue for being very clean!

When you empty the litter box, wash it with Clorox. empty you litter box at least once a week. Then put your kitty on science diet the dry kind. The poop don't stink on this food, it veggie fiber, meat is what makes their poop stink. My vet told me about it i thought she was crazy, but wow after they was on this food about two weeks, no smell. people can come in that don't have cats, they say they never smell a litter box. Even if they go to the room where the litter box is. One of my cat is 9 years old, & real healty.

Theres cat boxes that have tops on them and a door that cats walk through and that really works with my cats you can get them at wal*mart pretty cheap. Also theres different cat litters that you can get that are oder resistant with baking soda i use that for my cats and that really helps with the reaking scent!! I also wash my cats box out with water and soap at least every 2 weeks also remember to scoop the poop out every day!!!Then all of your friends will love to come over and have a great time without the kitty extras=P

I have 2 cats and no one notices..I use Tidy Cat Multiple Cat litter. thats it. I completely change it ever 2 or 3 days. Also try feeding your cats Cat Chow...it has ingredients to help w your cats urinary tract and makes less urine odor. Both are not expensive brands. I am also a mom of 4, so I am a budgeter!

Clean boxes daily and at least once a month, wash box and replace with clean new litter. Cat boxes only smell if they are not cleaned properly.

I usually clean my cats litter box with boiling water and a good thick bleach, lots of it and i use a scrubbing brush to scrub it in, when done rinse it well and dry with papretowel, it usually does the trick.
