Cockatoos are NOT the same at ALL! Cockatoos are large, powdery parrots that are significantly less understood than their smaller counterparts which results in a lot of problems dealing with them. I would not advise a cockatoo for anyone who had not researched the species in full and had experience interacting with cockatoos and spending time helping and fostering for rescues beforehand. Because we know so little about them, we cannot always provide them what they need and so they become neurotic, begin to pluck, scream, etc. If you look into cockatoos, definitely go to http://www.mytoos.com to get a real picture of what they are. Please, please research all of the birds you are interested in on your own, even through Google because the fact that you compared a cockatoo to a cockatiel through name similarity is a bit disheartening to the effort you're putting forth.
I still say a cockatiel would be your best bet because of their general friendliness, but please research through Google, books like Parrots for Dummies, the Cockatiel Handbook, and guides to companion parrots beforehand so you understand the needs of the bird. The one problem with cockatiels, however, is that they, like cockatoos, are very powdery and they are notoriously the two species of parrots who produce so much dander. If you or any family members have allergies to dust and dander, they may not be the best choice.

Cockatoos and cockateils are NOT the same. 'Toos are much bigger and really not good for an apartment. If you really want to know more about cockatoos, visit http://www.mytoos.com
I would recommend a cockateil for an apartment. They can be noisy (all birds are to one degree or another) but are not excessively loud. They require smaller cages and be very social birds if raised correctly.

Cockatoos and Cockatiels are different. Cockatiels are smaller and are more suited for beggining bird owners. They live about 20 years if fed pellets and not just seeds. Cockatoos live up to 50 years if you give pellets. Sice you have never had a bird than a Tiel would be best if you were to choose bettween two. Generally, budgies, cockatiels, and paratlets would be best. Save those others for later when you care taking skills have progresed. hope this helps.

Get a parakeet or a cockatiel, under no circumstances get a large parrot or cockatoo it would be a disaster for you and the bird. Try to find one that is already hand tamed. It will be more expensive but worth it

You really don't want a large parrot as a first bird. They are capable of bad bites, and many, especially cockatoos are very very loud screamers. A budgie, cockatiel or green cheek conure make great first birds. Get a baby and handle gently.

Conures are LOUD and not a competent suggestion for a place with skinny partitions. l ove birds, parakeets, parrotlets, and cockatiels are all great starter birds. all birds will make noise with the aid of out the day. it relies upon on you and the fowl on the education challenge. i does not reccommend getting a PARROT till you have had some fowl expierence. do somewhat learn on the internet to discover the fee, care, and the single that fits you suitable. i might say that parakeets besides as cockatiels are VERY youngster friendly and social. Lovebirds, and parrotlets are with regards to the comparable. sturdy success!

I would go with the Cockatiel, they are hardy and friendly. You may still get bitten once in a while but it won't hurt as bad as it would from a larger bird. The bigger the bird the louder the voice and harder the bite! The little ones hurt too but you get over it, the big ones can cause you to get stitches!!! ouch!!!

I would suggest a green cheek conure, they have a strong hookbill, are quiet if you talk to them quietly, they LOVE to be around people. I have one and he is the sweetest bird I have ever met. Hope this helps!! He was also my first bird.
