Once it is cooked thru, take it and put it in a collander and rinse under hot water.I do this and then if I have large lumps I mash them into crumbles. Then replace in pot and add the seasonings to the meat....

If you mix in some tomato juice (or other liquid) and your spices while the hamburger is still raw, it will cook up with a very fine texture. No mashing or heavy equipement necessary, just be sure to cook it a little longer so it is not too juicy.
I use this method for cooking tacos and spaghetti sauce and I always get tons of rave reviews.

The easiest way to crumble you hamburger is to get right in there and do it with you hands as you add it to the fry pan. After crumbling it with you hand keep breaking it up with you turner as it cooks. It takes patience but keep stirring it and breaking it up as it cooks and you will get the texture you want.

the best way to get hamburger broken up in to very fine small bits is with one of those hand held mashpotato utencesels it has a round base to it with small wholes in it ,not sure of the proper name buts it works very well , we use it all the time here at home cause we make many mexican dishes , but first let ya hamburger brown slightly then press it with the potato utencels breaking it up as fine as you wish.

I don't have a round potato masher, but tried my normal fat spatula & the low temp method. It worked much better! Lots of smaller crumbles with some medium crumbles. (I normally get medium crumbles with some large chunks & a few small - & extra crispy- crumbles.

Hand held potatoe masher......has like a wood bulb shaped handle and the mashing part of it looks like zig zagged wire. Works great.

Try a fork first, then an egg beater, then a wooden spoon in that order. Works great for me!
