All dieting that includes without eating all day is not healthful. But if you want to lose weight however, you need a balanced diet.

Make a chart on what you eat. remember: you can only stuff up to 1,200 calories a day. On the chart: list more healthy food witthout that much sweets. Also remember that one pound has 3,500 calories. Lose 1,000 calories each week. Don't keep losing that much a week like for EX:if you had been on this diet for 100 weeks then you might lose like a hundred pounds which might not be healthy for your age.

To end up on 140 pounds, keep a chart and lists all the food you are eating and the calories it had. Remember to add up all the calories to make sure you aren't going over the limit. And if the calories are going up or over 3,500, take out some food on the chart so it adds up to 1,200 calories.

all human bodies need a healthy eating plan; try these healthy tips >>
if you want to weight 180 pounds, then eat 1800 calories - good balanced diet and exercise, drink water ( minimum daily requirements is 8 - 8oz glasses)

http://www.mypyramid.gov/index.html
that site has a lot of helpful information on it.

weight 165 pounds - 1650 calories ;
weight 160 pounds - 1600 calories ;
weight 120 pounds - 1200 calories ;
basically what weight you should be and add a zero 0 , thats how many calories you should take in daily,

our bodies need a good balance of a variety of foods, a good 7 grain bread ; nuts ; raisins ; fruits ; cereals - the kinds that are not full of sugars ; green veggies ; yellow veggies ; beans / legumes ; peanut butter - a good one that's not full of sugar ; as for meats - chicken ; fish - salmon is best - tuna is also good ; beef - which has less than 20% fat content ; you can spice foods up with seasonings and make them taste better, but be very careful of how much salt you eat - always less than 3000 mg daily , if you average it to 1,000 mg per meal that would be best. And don't forget to drink your water, the water helps the body flush all the bad stuff from our system and keeps the body / organs functioning properly.

no soda pop / cokes ; coffee ; tea - unless its herbal tea ; no beer / alcohol ; no chips / cookies / cakes / pies / candy's ;

get at least 30 minutes of walking in a day - a good fast walk rather than a slow one, the average speed of a good fast walk is 4 miles an hour - so 2 miles in half an hour , but if you are not used to walking fast it will take your body time to get used to it and get that fast, and don't over do it, you don't want to pass out - set a pace, if you need to stop and take a 5 minute rest.

walking is the absolute best exercise for our bodies!

find daily calorie intake calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours - it optimizes your metabolism)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have protein (lean meat, legumes etc) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min (ideally 45min because the first 20-30min body burns carbs and only then starts burning fat), light weight training (more muscle=faster metabolism)
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, pasta etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

Walking is the best exercise for losing fat and ensure that your diet does not include any high calorie foods. Formulate your own weight loss plan and you will lose weight faster. More details available at http://www.toloseweight.org/weightlossplan.html

Try searching online. I'd recommend the South Beach Diet.
BTW - You're already healthy at 165 pounds. 140 might be pushing it. If you want to tighten up, lift weights and run.

Female diets are healthy for you but you need to add atleast 500 calories to them because you burn more than females do.

first you have to set yourself some goals. make sure they are realistic. there are plenty websites that will claim to have the magic workout of foods. the only thing ive found that works is on menshealth.com. its called the abs diet. something thats similar to that program is body for life by bill phillips. see ive personally done an tried everything. you don't wanna be on a diet, cuz in the end all diets fail. you want to have a lifestyle change, in a sense that will stop you from your habits. it takes only a few days to make something habit, it takes 3 months to break that habit. these books and websites will help you. they break it down for you, and make it very interesting. good luck
