Maybe. An SVHS cassette has an extra hole in it so the player can tell it's an SVHS and not a VHS cassette. If your adapter senses the hole and mechanically reproduces it, then yes, you can play the SVHS-C cassette. In other words, the adapter has to specifically know about SVHS.

VHS and SVHS are identical tapes. the only difference is an index hole in the cassette. As far as the adaptor is concerned, it works exactly the same for both mechanically.
Most decks automatically detect SVHS format directly from the tape playback, although Panasonic made a few professional decks that required the index hole for switching to S-mode on playback. The index was used primarily to autoswitch the record function. Some older VHS decks will playback S in a quasi mode, depending on the modulation depth(detail) of the recorded material. All decks can record regular VHS on your S tapes.
So there is a high probability that the adaptor you have will work for both tape types.

your tape player has to be able to play SVHS... the adapter only allows it to feed into a standard player... SVHS only looks like VHS, and is a high resolution tape and will not play in vhs. it will only play the sound.
