I think it would be the fact that an atheist has decided that there absolutely is NOT a God. Agnostics just aren't sure. Some agnostics, however, know that there is a God, they just aren't sure which God it is.

My husband is agnostic, bordering very closely on Christianity. He was an atheist when we met.

I think it because it's true.

An Atheist says there is no god. Period. An Agnostic says there might be or might not be, no one can possibly know for sure.

How is that in any way the same?

an agnostic doesn't know if there is or is not a god, so he is sitting on the fence as it were.

a soft atheist wants proof that there is a god

a hard atheist won't ever believe there is a god

I am a soft atheist.

By definition an agnostic does not claim to know that there is or is not a Supreme Being. He feels it is impossible to know in any scientific sense. The atheist doesn't care what sense says; the existence of God - any god - is proven,or so he claims, and that's that.

They may or may not be--there are several types of agnosticism, and some align with theism and some with atheism--agnostic is not an exclusive term. Don't feel like explaining it all, so I point you to wiki and say "read."

Agnostics do not believe in god. Atheists are asking for proof. You give us proof and we will be the most fervent Christians. agnostics will always be agnostics.

Atheists are firm in their belief that there is no god, and agnostics admit that they don't know one way or the other.
