Kyle brought up a great story about when Richard was asked who the best driver he ever raced against was. His dad said that David Pearson was. When David was told this and asked the same question he said, "I have to agree with him." Too funny, but the Silver Fox is the best driver ever in MY book. Opinions will vary on this forever, but Pearson was a clean driver that always seemed to be in contention at the end of races. I look forward to many more of the old school guys getting the recognition they deserve. The current drivers are reaping the benefits of many years of these older drivers pretty much racing for the fun of it.

Somewhere around 1993, I saw an old-timers race among some former champions from NASCAR, USAC and other series.
They used Jaquars on a half-mile paved track.
Pearson won, making an outside pass off turn 4 coming to the flag.
I think the old man could hang with the kids today, especially with power-steering and cool suits.
Run it in Daytona in July, take away the power-steering and cool suits and I wonder if the kids could hang with him.
By the way, Pearson kept Petty from reaching 233 wins and Petty kept Pearson from winning 138. Pearson and Petty had the greatest, if not the longest, racing duel in motorsports history. From August 8, 1963, through June 12, 1977, they finished first and second to each other 63 times. Pearson won 33, Petty won 30.
When I was a kid, I pulled for Pearson. In 1968, I had an Uncle who transported cars for the legendary Holman-Moody operation.
One afternoon, I heard what sounded like a truck pull up in our driveway, but I didn't look. My Uncle came to the door and said he was just getting back from Riverside. He told me he still had the racecar on the truck. I was out the door in a flash.
Sitting on the bed of the truck was Pearson's blue and gold #17, one of the cars he used to win his Second Title. He drove that car to a second place finish at Riverside, behind the winner, Dan Gurney and ahead of Parnelli Jones, Bobby Allison, Cale Yarborough and Al Unser, in finishing order.
He brought it by the house because he knew I was a Pearson fan and he thought I might like to sit in it.

Yes I saw it, and I liked it too. Although, Pearson seemed just a little bit full of himself didn't he? lol. He was basically saying that none of the drivers now a days could have hung with he and Petty. He still thinks he could race with them today too. He said only for a little while though.

I lost count they interviewed pretty much everyone I'm surprised that they didn't start interveiwing all the fans that was the longest rain delay that I have seen since the 2005 Pepsi 400, when they had like a 3 hour rain delay.

I thought it was great. Based on the cars then and what the drivers went thru, I don't know how many of todays drivers would do so well against those "old timers", given the same conditions.

I did and thought it was great. I love to see how they used to do it in the old days, back when they were running the same speeds as they are today with no safety equipment. They had to really take care of their stuff. They were real racers.

It was pretty cool, although I'm not too sure he could do the 30 laps like he said he could at full race speed. He is a personality though, I like that.
