Twinkie, as I know you're an atheist it is clear....and you're right, I've seen that countless times. It's also why so many insist we "hate" god. They just don't get it. They can't wrap their heads around the notion that we don't hate something that doesn't exist!

... if you believe in God "deep down," but will deny that God exists, don't you think that sounds a little rude? I don't know where the "deep down" came from, as I've never heard that before, but even if I weren't a Christian, I'd give you the same answer. It's not contradictory, it's just an act of hypocrasy. (And God warns against hypocracy, so I suppose that's why it's a sin.) Anyone, even an atheist , could answer this reasonably.

No not at all. The word sin, is often used today to describe major moral or ethical acts/behaviors. But the term sin, means to miss the mark or in more general terms, to not be perfect. So to hold an incorrect or imperfect belief, is to sin. Even though it may not rank up there with the 7 deadly ones!

Have never heard of denying the existance of God as being a sin. Where would that fall in the Ten Commandments?

Matthew 10:33
But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.
It's not contradictory. It's in the Bible. If a person denies God then he/she will die in their sins and as a result will go to hell. Sorry, I didn't write it so don't be angry with me.

But atheists really DON'T believe in any god or gods, no matter how "deep down" you go, so the question is meaningless, as it presupposes a false assumption.

Atheists have to believe in God, becuase they deny his existence.
How can you deny the existence of something that doesn't exist?

You'd have to buy the first part of that sentence to be able to answer the rest of the question.
