Do you find it odd that certain people are given special rights because of their religion? I heard that students at a public school were caught washing their feet in the sinks because of something to do with their religion, and now are being provided special rooms to do this while in school. I thought that this country had a seperation of church and state. So why must we use my tax dollars to pay for facalities to accomodate one religion, but when the christians wish to do something (without funds from the government) it is shot down like we were requesting to test a nuke on the white house?

It works both ways.. Sometimes you can't even get into a rehab of sorts if you are not Christian or Catholic.. Seems to me they should not judge and accept anyone with an illness.

As an Atheist I could not agree with you more. There should be NO special accomodations for ANY religious purposed that is paid for with tax dollars. I respect other religions but the schools and public buildings that I am having to pay for should show NO priviledges for any religious reasons. I am paying for something that should be equal and for use by ALL. Whatever you are talking about needs to be spoken out against starting today. I think if you do for one you gotta do for all.
This is why Atheist are so LOUD about keeping religion out of government. We don't just mean Christianity we mean ALL of them

You dont think outside the box often, do you??

First off, I challenge you to provide ONE SINGLE EXAMPLE of Christians being shot down by Govt. I have a few words for you: Bush's FAITH BASED INITIATIVES. Look them up. And, if you refer to prayer in school, you need understand that this is different - this is taking school time reserved for teaching to pray. Students that want to wash their feet on a lunch hour is completely different....

Secondly, if you think just for a second - these special foot washers werent installed specifically for the kids that practice this religion - the foot washer were installed so that you, your children and all other children dont have to wash their hands or drink water out of a sink that has had someone else's stinky feet in them...its helps stop the spread of germs, and thus protects YOU. d imagine that the water splashes all over the place too, making the entire bathroom a hazardous area to walk in, so it further protects children... It is not about special treatment for the religious, its about protecting others from germs and other dangers. .

Techinically, we are supposed to accomodate all religions.

The seperation brought up means that just because an authority figure is a particular religion doesn't mean the rest of us have to be. That's why a moment of silence is allowed in school but prayer is not, because a moment can be used for anything while the idea of prayer is being forced onto the students.

If your area has a problem with Christian organizations being treated differently and it's not being led/forced upon non-Christians, then I'd suggest you sue. In my area, a Christian after school group sued because the schools allowed Boy Scouts to use their campus, but the Christian organization similar could not (both after school programs not led by teachers or any school admin). They won.

you christians are not shot down. you practically run the country. if you needed little sinks to wash your feet, you would get them. you just couldn't get them engraved or gold plated to make them better than the other religion's little sinks

what was shot down or did you just make that up? maybe what you wanted was actually illegal.

the school agreed to install lower sinks to accomodate those who practice washing their feet before praying as a SAFETY measure because wet bathroom floors are not safe for any students. It was a college so they would most likely have private funding.

What do you mean by "special room?"

I would suggest you not get so worked up over hearsay.

Sounds to me like they just don't want people putting their feet in the sink.

1. it is gross
2. it is dangerous
3. I don't even want to think of the issues the poor teacher who is covering that bathroom would have to deal with.

Why are you getting your panties in a twist? They are NOT building a new room for these students, only providing safer, cleaner conditions. I'll bet money they are just using the locker room or nurse's office.

Such as?

The foot-washing scenario does seem a bit extreme though, I'll grant you! :-)

The story you are refering to is a group of Muslims in a public school system, but I forget which state that it is accuring in probably Minnessota. yes the public is paying to include sinks for foot washing for the students.

That is just wrong. If one wishes to practice their religion at school they should go to a religious school.

Or they can continue washing their feet in the sink. They should not have special accomdations made for them.

Yes, I think it's odd. Yes, any favoritism or double standard sh*t pisses me off. And don't go into the innocence of christianity line, because it is the biggest line of BS out there. Christians have forced their way into everything for two thousand years - they have persecuted and spilled blood in the name of their god and religion - at least these people are just trying to wash their feet.

It's ok to pray in school, so it should be ok to wash feet. Though, I wouldn't give them any special room. There should be a janitor washbasin that is sufficient. No tax dollars should be required. Or they can just bring in a bucket or something. I do agree that no tax dollars should be used to support such nonsense.
