The simple answer is to wear your hair in a style that covers your sideburn area.
If you do decide you absolutely MUST do something to remove it, then there isn't a simple answer and there's a great deal of misinformation going around. Don't get caught out.
Facial (and also body) hair on women comes about in the same way as on men because of
1) your body being sensitized, before you were even born, to testosterone -- doesn't happen to all girls, but does to many
2) your body producing high levels of testosterone
The growth rate and coarseness of the hair depends on just how much testosterone is circulating in your bloodstream.
Steer clear of bleaching -- when someone sees you against the light you'll look as if you have a glowing beard.
As far as removing it is concerned it's worth remembering that
* Waxing, plucking, threading, epilating all pull the hair out by the roots and where the growth is hormonally-driven can actually stimulate a dormant follicle into producing more hair quicker. They also distort the root if done repeatedly, leading to hair growing at strange angles. And you've got to let the hair grow to quite a length before you can repeat the exercise. It can also damage the skin and discolor it. Long-term use of waxing also causes bad wrinkles.
* Chemical depilatories strong enough to remove the hair are very likely to burn the skin, cause swelling and cause long-term discoloration of the skin.
* Laser is also liable to cause burning and discoloration and in any case only works effectively on a dark hair/light skin combinantion.
* Electrolysis is very liable to cause scarring and discoloration of the skin.
Which, like it or not, leaves shaving which does not damage the skin. Best done with a men's-style electric razor, the best of which, for women, are probably those from the men's range of Norelco razors (Philishave outside the US). Most women who try a men's Norelco wonder why nobody ever told them about it before. Just make sure you trim the hair down to less than 1/8" before attempting to shave it.

I know EXACTLY what you're talking about... I went through that too and of course laser hair removal was what i wanted to do but lets face it... it's expensive, painful, and out of my reach. Anyway I found that you can use any kind of wax to get rid of it. If you have waxed any part of your body before you know that there are some areas that hurt more than other. Well luckily for most people the sides of their face dont hurt much! Plus the hair will stay away for at least a month and it comes out thinner and lighter each time... the change is small so you wont notice the first few months but then you will! You can have the hair waxed proffesionaly at a salon or buy a homekit. If you wont wanna spend money on a home kit make your own sugar wax! (Works great its what i use!!!)
Ingredients for Halawa Sweet, AKA Sweet, Egyptian Sugar Wax, or Hair Removal by Lucy Elsherif
1. Two cups of water
2. Three cups of sugar or three cups of honey
3. Two teaspoons of lemon juice
Procedure
1. Place all ingredients in saucepan. Bring to boil.
2. When its colour changes to golden brown, lower the heat and continue to simmer.
3. Keep a careful watch on the colour. Once it starts to change to brown, turn off the heat.
4. Allow to cool a little, then pour small quantities onto heavy duty plastic, of the cereal bag type. Plastic that is not heavy duty will melt. It is not a good idea to use a plate, as you will need to peel it off something pliable after it cools.
5. When it becomes cool enough to handle, pull a piece off the plastic and pull and stretch it. This will immediately cause it to change color, from a clear golden brown to an opaque gold. It should be easy to stretch and pull. If it is too hard, you have left it on the heat for too long and must make a new batch. If it is too liquid, it has not been heated enough and must be heated once more, or a new batch made.

Try the home hair removal cream. You can get it at the drug store(Walgreens etc.) but make sure it's the kind for your face. It only takes 4 - 5 minutes, and it's gone. All hair does grow back, but using this is WAY better than the stubble you get if you shave it.
(Trust me, I tried shaving off my widow's peak when I was 11 or 12. I learned my lesson, and learned to live with the peak) Good luck hon!

You can wax it or use a hair remover made for the face area. But you'll have to keep it up just like you have to keep plucking your brows & shaving your legs. There's also a prescription cream that inhibits the growth of the hair on your face. It won't stop the hair from growing, but it will take it longer to grow out. Good luck.

i would try an epilator or waxing it (after you trim it a bit) it will grow back softer because the ends won't be blunt like they are when you shave it. also you can do it at home whenever you need to. if it is only a few of them i would tweeze... which is essentially what an epilator does but really quickly and a larger area at once. they have different sizes too, so i would get a small/ medium one for your face. i have one that i use on my body and i wouldnt go back to shaving to save my life. no bumps no weird growing back stage either. Good luck and anyone who leaves you rude comments needs to get a life.

Have you thought about going and getting it professionally waxed? Or maybe even a good at home hair removal kit? Maybe that would be a better way to go then spending thousands of dollars and curb your fears about shaving.(which by the way is a total myth about it growing in darker and all that)

I suggest getting your cheeks threaded. You can usually get this done at an indian beauty salon. Although it stings a bit you're hair free! I get threaded for my eyebrows and it's a whole lot better than getting a wax! It's not too expensive either.

I understand completly, this can be very embarassing. Sally Hanson has a product that you can use to bleach the hairs on your face so they disapper. You can find it in the aisle in the store where you can find Nair, Veet, and waxing stuff. I hope this helps you.

hmm i think the best thing you can do is wax it. go to a hair salon and ask if they do waxing. it hurts for a second its like what tghey do to eyebrows. not bad at all. and very cheap. or you can ask your dr. if you have a hormonal problem bc you shouldn't normally be getting hair on your face. he may give you hormone pills and what not. ask your mom.

You could try nair or veet but make sure you try it on a non noticible place first to make sure you are not allergic to it. For me Veet works really well.
