Many councils and service units have camping equipment to loan out, from tents to cooking sets to first aid kits.

You can make some of your gear, instructions are at:

There are all kinds of PVC structures, including a flag stand, table, wash station, etc. at:

Also, if you see something at a garage sale or thrift store, tell them you want it for Girl Scouts. I've found many times the people will heavily discount things for Scouts.

Freecycle is a wonderful resource for stuff like this, too, I agree you should check it out.

Freecycle is a good source as is Craig's list. Contact the Boy Scouts in the area and see if they have any equipment to share. The Denver Council will be sending two troops to the National Jamboree, and they must provide new equipment for these troops. When they return, the equipment is distributed to the local troops, and the equipment currently in the troops is handed out to others.
The Mile Hi flea market is a good place for equipment.
Try the Goodwill store on Broadway south of where I-25 crosses near the old Gates' rubber plant. I always left there with a great find. If the "Unique" thrift store is still on Colfax at Wadsworth, that is a real treasure trove for used camping equipment, as is the DAV and ARC east of the store.
Keep on Scoutin'

REI, Campmore, Cabela's for kit that concerns (i.e. tent, iciness slumbering bags, backpacks, rain kit) Walmart, purpose for kit that doesn't remember (i.e. coleman range, camp chairs, stuff sacks, lanterns, firestarters, marshmallow sticks, dishes) If it keeps you dry or gentle pay the extra funds for super kit. If its no longer high priced to interchange or it is not significant if it stops working elect the main inexpensive you will discover. The exception could be in case you camp the place/while there is not any possibility of rain then you could desire to pass with a affordable tent from Walmart which will resemble a sieve if it does rain. In New England you are able to tell the Walmart tents by the blue tarp thrown over them in case of rain at night. the different exception could be in case you have on no account camped previously and don't be responsive to in case you will like it. Then in simple terms purchase a Walmart tent and air mattress. Use your place blankets and pillows. Borrow a range and camp for the weekend. in case you do like it then improve.

You could teach the girls to sew their own gear. Not because their girls. I sew my own gear too. It's a fine project for kids, scouts, or whoever. You can buy whole sets from Ray Jardine, the inventor of ultralight backpacking, or find free patterns or plans online and buy materials locally or online.

For scouts you really don't have to go crazy with purchasing gear. Here's a link to an entire article from a scoutmaster which should work for the girls as well: http://www.backpackinglight.com/cgi-bin/backpackinglight/boy_scout_gear_list.html

Although you really should consider that the whole scouting organization, while "fun" is bigoted toward people who base their philosophy on the rights of the individual human being rather than a collection of ancient books purporting to describe an alien being and its rules for its obedient slaves, and they really have no leg to stand on in that matter other than the use of force and dishonesty against others, making them an immoral organization following immoral principals.
