Hi! First off, Vancouver is a wonderful city, I have enjoyed visiting there and Vancover Island as well--I love it there! The drive to California...I would side trip to see Mt. St. Helens and Crater Lake. They let you hike to the lake now but you need to be in good shape to handle the hike back up; it is incredible. You might want to do the Washington coastline--Moclips is great, but all those coast towns are great! Same with the Oregon coast, and the California coast north of San Francisco. San Francisco is a very interesting city with lots of scenic vistas, in some ways it reminds me of Vancouver but actually I like Vancouver more.

Where in CA are you going? CA is a big place! In any case, definitely plan to spend a day in Seattle; it's a very cool city with a lot of night life and excellent restaurants and comedy clubs and bars. One of my favorite bars (actually it's a tavern... beer and wine only) Is Connor Byrne's. (I forget how exactly its spelled).

Portland also has some attraction but I much prefer Seattle. If you are not in a hurry, the drive down the OR coast is very scenic; as well as the drive down the CA coast. If you prefer to stay more inland, the I-5 will bore you from WA through most of ORegon, but eventually you'll get into some scenic mountains that will occupy your eyes for several hundred miles. When you get further into CA, consider swinging over to San Fran... another fantastic place.

If you like baseball, you'll pass a number of ballparks... I'd stop to catch a game or two.

Central CA is very boring; if possible I'd recommend driving down the coast if possible.
