I am a newly graduated student. I just got a job in NYC with a graphic design company. My passion is oil painting. How much would you pay for me to paint you a painting. Anything you would like it could be an existing piece or a family picture. Short answer please.

Sorry, there's no real short answer for this one - I need to ask you some questions first, and your answers will decide the price.

Q. How long have you been painting professionally?
1) 1 to 5 years,
2) 5 to 9 years,
3) 10 to 19 years,
4) 20+ years

Q. In what style do you paint?
1) Folk Art
2) Surrealist, High Realism,
3) Romantic, Classical,
4) Impressionist, Abstract, Outsider,

Q. How big?
A. 8X10,
2) 16X20",
3) 36X48",
4) 54X72"

Q. Are your sales consistent at:
1) Two pieces per year,
2) 10 - 24 per year,
3) 25 - 39 per year
4) 40 or more

Q. Do I like your work?
1) Yuck
2) Hmmm
3) WOW
4) Can't live without it

If your answers are all
1) = $50
2) = 150
3) = 5,000
4) = 20,000
For a mixture of answers, go between the prices.

I've been painting for over 30 years and operating a gallery for 15 years now... all these things and more are factors in pricing art.

You should give a link to a website where you show examples of your work. Neither I nor probably anyone would pay anything for anyone's artwork without seeing some examples. Is that answer short enough for you?

How much would I pay for one of my own paintings? I don't have to buy my own paintings because they are mine to begin with. You might want to re-phrase your question to make it more clear that you are trying to sell your art and asking us to buy it.

But it's hardly likely that anyone would ever even think of considering buying one of your paintings for any price if we haven't seen samples for your work to know if it's any good and to know if it might be something we would be interested in.

One could not possibly answer this question without first seeing the caliber of your work.
