That is ridiculous to order the dresses that far in advance. More than likely they havent even been made yet and the measurements are sitting in a file. Call or have the bride call the dressmaker and find out if the dresses have been started yet. If not then you can give them your new measurements. If they have been started, but are not to far advanced yet, you still might be able to change the measurements. I dont know how possible it is to alter a dresses 4 sizes and at this point in 5 months you may even be a smaller size. Definitely do not stop trying to lose weight. Im sure you know how difficult it is to lose weight to begin with and you dont want to stop and then have problems later trying to lose again. If it is absolutely impossible to get the dress in the right size then talk to the bride about trying to find a similar dress in the same color. I know of one site where the dresses are from $59 to $99 and they offer hundreds of styles and colors. You might even be able to find something on ebay or at davidsbridal. http://www.justthebeginnings.com Congrats on the baby and losing the weight.

Actually, my bridesmaids had to have them done in advance also! It really depends on who's making the dresses, types of fabric, difficulty of pattern and details, how busy they are at the time etc. However, my sister was in the same boat as you are, so we spoke with the company and they agreed to have the other dresses made and hold off on hers as long as possible! With an understanding that if they got really busy, we would just have to guess the measurements! I was engaged much sooner than she was pregnant, so when she found out she was pregnant, we took her measurements, in case we had to have the dress made by those! The company suggested that if all else fails, they would make the dress 1 or 2 sizes larger than her prebaby size, so even if she lost it all, it would be less alterations!
If the dress is already made, an option is to find another seamstress (say a family member or friend even) and they would probably charge WAY less than someone else. If you are using the same seamstress as the one who made the dress originally, then of course it will be far more expensive than if you shop around and find a less expensive, but still qualified seamstress!
Otherwise, if you can't find a cheaper seamstress, I'm going to have to say you'll have to suck it up! So sorry! but this far into it, it would be in very poor taste to back out now. And you would also be out the money you have already spent thus far on the event!
Good luck and congrats on being chosen as a bridesmaid in the 1st place!

Sometimes women who are bigger don't show as much or as soon when they are pregnant, I guess because they already have enough extra space for the baby. But fat is squishy and baby is not. Definitely plan on having some extra material, because you never know. She'll probably need at least a little more room by that time. Oh and if she's a size 22, she's probably more than 200 pounds. I'm 179 and I'm a size 12. Or I was before I got pregnant....

If it is a custom made dress then there should be a final fitting for the dress and they should be able to make it fit you. The seamstress can take away fabric it is just adding it that is the problem so go ahead and keep on losing weight. Any seamstress would not make a dress that far in advance. I would try and contact her and tell her of your dress size change. It should not be that big of a deal to an experienced seamstress.

Congratulations on both your baby and your weight loss! I do think it's silly to be measured so far in advance. If you have the dress, take it to a local seamstress to get it altered. It will be much cheaper. If the bride pitches a fit because you aren't using the dressmaker, then tell the bride you can't because of cost. Maybe she'll offer to foot the bill for you (but probably not).

Call them. Chances are they are not making them yet. I would ask about updating your measurements. If you are talking that many dress sizes, it is very difficult to get it altered. See if you can get up with the company in the process of dress making. Much easier.
The place didn't need measurements 10 months in advance. Chances are they are just starting the dress now.

So have a friend alter it. Or find a seamstress to do it. They are usually cheap. You should have told the bride you'll wait until about a month or two before the wedding to have it fitted. Trust me, no matter what the size,it'll be uncomfortable. Which is why I picked out soft fabric and told my bridesmaids the could have it made so it's comfortable on them. But I did give them a pattern.

If they are being custom made find out if your dress has actually been made yet. They may be able to change the size. They generally can't take a dress in more than 4 sizes so I would call and see what they tell you.

Well, it's easier and more comforting to have the dress taken in, rather than taken out. And you'll have the greatest feeling when you wear a dress that's been altered. It will be worth it for you to look and feel like a million bucks.

Yes, that is frustrating, and yes, it'll probably cost you a fortune to have it altered; the same thing happened to me and there was no way of getting around it. Add this to the list of reasons why it is no longer fun to be in someone's wedding...
