My 2 year old Ragdoll neutered indoor only male cat has not been feeling well. I noticed a problem about a month ago with his behavior he was just not interested in anything, or playing. I figured it was the weather change. Next I noticed his appetite change he started becoming finicky with food. Hmm I also have a 4 year old female spayed cat, and nothing has changed with her at all she's fine. Also nothing in our home has changed no stress factors. Next he started drinking lots of water, and sitting by his bowl. His stools go on and off soft to normal. I've tried different food, everything. He has been losing weight, but the last three weekends his behavior is just terrible and his weight now is drastic. He has an apt tonight with our vet for an exam and test. We called the breeder and he thinks he could have some poisoning from recalled food. But non of our food we fed was recalled unless this is a strange case?? So he's tired, his coat is terrible, and no appetite ideas

That happened with my 5 year old male cat. He stopped playing, ate normal but he lost weight. Drank ALOT of water. He would hide alot too or sleep in odd places. What wound up being wrong with him was kidney failure. It was not from the recalled food, because my other cat was fine. But it could've also happened from something he got into, or he suffered some kind of trauma to his kidneys. I hope this is not the case for you. It is terrible to go through, and there is no cure for it. My cat has to get daily fluid therapy to help his kidneys not have to work so hard, plus he has to be on a special diet. Eventually he will have to be put down. I'm not saying this is what's wrong with your cat, but my cat had the same symptoms and that's what it was. Good luck to you.

Your poor kitty.....
What kind of food was it? Wasn't the wheat gluten the problem.... did the food have any of that in it?
Or has another pet recently died or went to live with some one else? Once one of my cats had to be separated from it's mother so she could take care of the other kittens. Then my cat (she was still a kitten)
was sad. Could it be from that? Well your cat is still young so he can't be sad from old age. Did it used to be an outdoor cat and you recently made it stay inside and never go out? It could from that. My cats are indoor cats but I've heard that can make them sad.
Maybe it got addicted to tuna and won't eat anything else?
I think some where I heard that either tuna or salmon can be addictive to cats. I'm not sure if it true though.
That's all I can think of... I hope you cat gets better; and the vet can help you. Ragdolls are such a nice breed... They kind of remind me of main coons... (I have one) I really hope he gets better!

Lethargy, loss of appetite and behavioural changes are very generalised symptoms - the possible causes are too many to list.
The excess drinking however could be symptomatic of diabetes, or kidney problems - in a young cat, diabetes is more likely. Your vet will need to run some tests to get to the root of this. Good luck!

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.
The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.
Get started today!

First I have to say, just because he lays by his water dish, doesn't mean anything.. My big baby loves to lay next to his, I joke that he is just hanging around the pool. And as to the cat, the vet is the only thing to do. You can try and googling his symptoms, but that might just get you stressed and thinking worse case senerios, which isn't good for either of you. I know it sucks when your babies are sick, I have one right now that is just sick and sneezing and can't hardly breath, but the vet says don't worry. But when they are your babies, you can't help it. I know I really haven't given you any advice, but I understand where you are coming from and I wish you the best of luck with your little guy.Hopefully it is just something small and trivial and he will be just fine and happy and healthy for a long time to come. Good luck!

I think some of my cats were poisoned by the recalled food - know I fed them some of the brands, but the cans were long gone to check them against the recall numbers. My guys had the symptoms you describe of not eating, weight loss, & drinking lots of water, & some diarrhea, but they also begain throwing up - first regurgitated food, progressed to deep yellow colored bile, then blood. My vet really didn't know what to do, it was early in the recall & no one knew what in the food was poisoning them. two of my cats died. I just tried to get them to eat soft food, kept fresh water available & I also put out a bowl of water into which I'd opened an activated charcoal capsule. I'd replace that daily also, & that seemed to help, as I've read that it helps toxins to be absorbed & eliminated out of the body. I hope your vet can help, this could be something else, too - drinking water & weight loss can also be a sign thyroid or kidney disease, or he might have a urinary tract infection, or something else. Its good you are getting him checked out ;it could be so many things. Hope the vet can help & that he'll be better soon.

I had a male cat given to me last fall which began having similar symptoms. He was taken to the vet and was thought to have feline hepatitis. This cat almost died and the vet was amazed that he pulled through. We spent at least two months hand feeding him several times daily to keep up his strength and he was given antibiotics. It was a long road and alot of work but well worth it. He is pretty well back to normal and seems healthy and active today. He also got sores around his neck after he started eating on his own again. I looked this up on the Internet and it is also a symptom of feline hepatitus. They are gone as well now.

First of all you are doing the correct thing going to your vet. I breed Siamese, now cats dont like their food being changed. Maybe he has developed an alergy, I would take advice from your vet. It doesnt sound like the food, as your other cat is ok. So it is more likely to be something wrong with him. When was he wormed last? is he due his boosters? ask the vet all these questions, does he have fleas? Let me know how it works out!

Based on what you've said, the symptoms could indicate anything from a parasite to a serious disease. Ultimately, only your vet can really tell what's going on.
It could also be poisoning from recalled food, but I can't tell for sure unless I know what he's been eating, as the list of recalled food is very long. Click on the link in my source to find the full list of recalled pet food to be sure.
Best of luck to you and your cat.

hmm
quite a delema
well i think its one of two things
1, like you said the cat food recall
or 2 he has worms
i am guessing tape or ring worms
symtoms of worms----
triedness
weight loss
soft stool
coughing
loss of appitate
a little foam at mouth (not rabies)
hissing when coming in contact with others
pain when picked up or pet in certain areas
sorry but thats all i can think of now
but i reccomend taking your cat to the vet , the doctor will know
and please take him quick becasue either of these things can be deadly
good luck with your cats
