They aren't; you can't see well enough, even with flood-lights. For the sake of privacy, the survivors of a deceased celebrity may want the grave moved and that might be done at night to avoid attracting attention. But generally speaking a professional exhumation only tales place at night in tv shows,to make it creepy.

The "legal" ones are done mostly during daylight hours, and screens are put up so that passersby, etc,, are not disturbed in any way. The grave diggers and medical and police people need the light of day, for safety, to be sure all of the remains have been collected (coffins tend to fall apart to nothing), and, often when it is a police or court matter, the inspection begins on the spot. It is, most times nowadays, done with respect for the dead, and carefully.

It is quite uncomfortable for some people to see an exhumation at daylight... it is a solid way to arrange such things.

The simple answer is custom and usage - it was originally done at that time to avoid hurting the feelings of the bereaved family.

Well, I don't know for sure, but I would think it would be highly disturbing for people visiting the memorials of their loved ones to see a plot being dug up before their eyes. Personally, I would not want to see that.

Didn't know the legal ones were..... I guess it's so as not to compound the grief of people, who may be visiting during the day.?
