there is a correct way to throw a punch to reduce hand or wrist injury.

Ensure the fist is held in a straight profile to the arm so that on contact it will actually be the lower part of your fingers rather than the knuckles.

This allows for better power and reduces injury.

Yeah, seriously, have a Dr. check it. When I was much younger, I got really pissed off at something and punched a freezer(yeah I know, it wasn't the smartest thing I ever did). Long story short, I messed up my hand for life, but if I had gone to the Dr. right away( I found out later), he would have set my hand and it would have been as good as new in about 6 weeks. It doesn't bother me much really, but I can feel its just not "right'. Hurts a little sometimes. So if it still hurts you, see a Dr. You might prevent some future chronic problem.

At close quarters always use your elbows; minimum damage to yourself and maximum damage to your opponent. Throw it like you would a right hook. However, I wouldn't recommend you hit your friend like this ... it can cause some serious damage, so self defence only OK?

wailt till it heals, failing that, cut it off. Then the stump will be painful, not the finger!
