I want to join Peace Corps, but don't know what region I would get the most out of (and I'm aware you don't always get the region requested).

I feel like Africa would give me the most amazing experience, but I'm not sure I could stand the intense extremes in temperature, and the living conditions. I definitely couldn't live in a mud hut- sometimes even in my own bed on our second story I get freaked out that someone is going to come in my window and attack me, I can't imagine living in a place without windows!

I'm also picky about food, but love to cook. I would need to be in a place with lots of fresh foods available. The more tropical locations appeal to me for this reason.

The European countries like Ukraine and Macedonia also appeal to me because they are more urban and the living conditions are better. But I sort of feel like I won't get the whole Peace Corps experience in a place like that.

My main concern is safety. Which regions have the most welcoming people?

Maybe I exaggerated a bit about what I want in the peace corps.. of course i want to help wherever I am needed and will adjust to whatever assignment they give me..

What I am asking is, which region would I be happiest in? I am allowed to request the region I want, and sometimes volunteers are given 3 or 4 choices of where they wish to go. I am just trying to figure out which reason I am most interested in, in case I am given that choice.

I agree with your assessment that Africa would probably give you the best, most memorable experience. However, I also agree with the first answerer in that you may not be cut out for the Peace Corp experience. In nearly every place you may be assigned you will find the living conditions to be primitive by US standards. Also, you may find it difficult to find acceptable food options. You have to go to a place with a very open mind and attitude. If you want glamour or such you are looking at the wrong organization. The opportunity to serve as a peace corp volunteer is amazing and you would probably enjoy it immensely but you must have an open mind. GOOD LUCK

it incredibly is an exceptionally super question. Being that I have not have been given any theory what John F. Kennedy might think of or say with reference to the Peace Corps, this of direction is all hypothesis. With that mentioned, i think he may well be a great deal disillusioned. In front of the cameras he might provide an awe inspire speech approximately how he thinks the Peace Corps is doing a dazzling interest and that it is the main to our destiny. in the back of closed doorways although, i think he may well be incredibly furious with how the Peace Corps is being ran. With the rape, sexual attack and actual attack that are being lined-up in huge numbers, besides as a thoroughly disorganized enterprise the two in the previous for the duration of and after provider, i think of John F. Kennedy may well be furious with the present Peace Corps. i think that as quickly as JFK got here up with the techniques and the belief of Peace Corps, he did no longer think of it would be what it incredibly is has replace into right this moment. that may not a compliment.

The Peace Corps is about helping. I'm sure your intentions are good but being so picky about food, climate and personal comfort I doubt you'd make the cut. If I was going out for the Peace Corps I'd most likely be happiest wherever I was needed most.

you definitely do not belong in the Peace Corps. You have to be willing to accept primitive living conditions, eat foods that you have no clue what they are or how they were prepared, and you do not have a choice where you serve. You are much too concerned about your own comfort and not nearly enough about doing whatever it takes to help someone else. Maybe you would do better volunteering at your local hospital gift shop.

the living conditions are better in Ukraine?! actually, no. there are millions of poverty stricken families, children among them, who are living in unimaginable conditions. ive seen ppl climbing through garbages, scouring for food, starving. this is in KIEV! the capital! but why are u worried about safety? isnt the peace corps about taking risks to help others????
