Is it overused/misused these days?
Does it in an essence water down Christianity?
Does it carry any weight to you?
And do the terms "Good Catholic person" or "Good Atheist person" ect carry equal weight in the US?

I know Catholics have Christian beliefs...yet I am wondering if more emphasis is placed on the word "christian"

The term is just as redundant as "Born-again Christian"; but unfortunately, some people seem to need the redundancy in this day and age.

Those who have quoted Jesus' words that "there is none good except God, alone," are correct; but, again, for example, Catholics call their priests, "Father", which is also specifically prohibited in the Bible. Our Assembly of God pastor does not wish to be called "Reverend' and our denomination does not even have "Bishops"!

Unfortunately many of us have become rather sloppy and imprecise in our use of the English language!

I think it goes back to the days when Christian was assumed to be synonymous with good, or at least extra-good. I think most educated people today would be aware that it would be offensive to people who are non Christian. In a sense it does water down Christianity, in that every "good," i.e. decent, kind, polite person is somehow Christian... Among people who still use it, I imagine it still serves the function of emphasizing "goodness" in the way that Hindu, Jewish, Atheist, Muslim, etc. does not. These other labels would probably be a counterpoint to "goodness" to most people, or at best merely an additional trait, whereas the "CHristian" acts as an intensifying adjective, like "very."

I think it is overused. I am not sure about watering down. It really doesn't hold weight with me. No and NO.

The fact is there isn't any "Good" christian people in the world. We all sin on a daily basis. God forgives us if we are truly sorry. You can only try to be the best christian you can be by following God's will. All of these people who are out there proclaiming to be "Good" Christians are trying to impress society. Society isn't who we need to worry about God is. If you live your life as good as you can you will set an example to others. Others will see you doing good things and they will hopefully follow suit. I think that one of the hardest things in life is holding your tongue. So many sins are committed just by words we say. Even someone who thinks they are a "Good" christian talks about how someone else is not. So they are just as wrong as the next person.

I say live your life according to the Bible and try and do the best you can do. Leave the judging to God.

A term used by christians to make them feel morally superior when they truly are not. People of all beliefs can be good people. These titles carry no weight with me and yield no respect because of the said title.

2. Yes.

3. No. Christianity cannot be harmed, no matter how many falsely misrepresent it.

4. No. See #1.

5. I've never heard these phrases used.

I think of a big man with a Texas accent leaning back in a chair and tugging his suspenders.

That's what I think of.

Your other questions: Overused, no water, no weight, equal weight.

If someone has to "qualify" themselves as such, it probably means that they are not the way, they are described.

Psychology tells us that when one prefaces a phrase with, "to be honest" , it usually means that the person is not being honest, or has not been honest up to that point.

Likewise to say, "good Christian person" would imply that they are not, or have not been up to that point.

It is the same ans a good person.
I do not see it overused, but I see it over ridiculed.

The weight is in the character of its carrier.

I think being a good christian person means following without question what your religion teaches you and I think being a good person means something tottally different. I think there are many good christians out there who are very bad, ugly, negative people. My MIL is one of them.
