Even if you can't afford it, you NEED to find a way to get them to a vet. THEY NEED MEDICAL ATTENTION. Most vets will allow you to make payments if you cannot pay all at once. Their first concern is an animals health, not your pocket book. If you can't do that, take them to the humane society, or a no kill shelter in your area where they can be treated properly. GO!!!!

Many kittens have eye problems, so this is what has worked for me: Take a cotton ball or warm washcloth barely wet with lukewarm water and wipe the kitten's eyes, nose outward. Gently. Use a different space on the washcloth or use a different cotton ball for each eye. As you're doing this you can remove any crusty stuff and gently work the kitten's eye open. Some pus may come out, but you can wipe it away with the cloth. (That's why you use a different cottonball for each eye -- you don't want to spread it.) Get some "Terramycin ophthalmic ointment" and put it in the kittens' eyes as directed on the tube. This ointment is available online from pet supply places like Revival. This really works. You should wipe the kittens' eyes at least twice a day, even though you think the infection is gone. Sometimes kittens get something I call "icky kitten eye" (not an infection) that crusts the eyes up so they can't stay open. Washing them helps.

There are, however, more serious eye infections that kittens can get and this requires vet attention. If you can't afford it, maybe a pet shelter can.

contact the SPCA, Humane Society, and rescue organizations & explain your situation & see if they can help you with eye medicines. Some pet stores (like PetsMart) allow rescue groups to show there, so they may be able to give you phone numbers for rescue groups). See if they can take the animals, or if you could be a foster home ( that means you would commit to keeping the kittens inside & away from strange cats, would bring them out to the adoption fairs & you'd provide food - usually the rescue group provides medical care). Call all of them you get numbers for & see if anyone can help you - if you must leave a message on an answer machine, be sure to include a number & best times to call you - be available for callbacks as they are volunteer groups and very overworked at this time of the year. Until then, if you can afford a human saline solution from the drug store please get that (saline only - no other things added in - ask the pharmacist if you aren't sure) and use that on gauze to soak the crusts away from the eyes and to flush the eyes, however, there is probably infection and you need an antibiotic eyecream. You can sometimes buy terramycin eye ointment for cats at petstores or online from Fosters & SMith or Jeffers. (costs about $10). However, without a diagnosis from a vet, you'd just be hoping that would work. You could even call some vets in your area & explain your circumstances & see if you can work something out - maybe they would let you clean cages or do yardwork in exchange for care. Can you cut expenses somewhere, or borrow the money from a parent or friend, or use a credit card that can be paid off later, or sell something to generate some cash, even take up a collection among your friendss? Sometimes we really don't have the money, but sometimes it is just a matter of our priorities - if you are buying other things, can you do without something for awhile in order to help these kittesns. Good luck. I hope some of the rescue groups or animal organizations may be able to help you. If left untreated, they may go blind.

Princess and all the kittens should see the vet this morning. It's possible that the mastitis was caused because the kittens stopped nursing instead of the other way around. Kittens go down hill fast. Since you've done all the reasonable thing on your own, see the Pro. One thing though, they are very sensitive to the temp of the food, a degree too hot or too cold and they don't seem to recognize it. I should know the normal body temp of a cat but I can't think right now and I know the vet can tell you even over the phone. With luck the next answer will have that info.

I am going through this right now.

GO TO THE VET. Most vets have a payment plan. The kittens could go blind if not treated. This is very serious.

One of my kittens eyes did not open when they should have. I took all three to the vet, and they all had neonatal conjunctivitis. When the eye was opened, a lot of pus came out. This is dangerous and serious - please get them help.

To open the matted eye, get a warm wet washcloth and very gently rub it over the eye. The kitten will cry and squirm, but keep doing it - again, very gently as to not harm the eye.

Please, call around to the vet offices, explain your circumstances and get them in. Any vet worth his/her salt will put the kittens health over immediate payment.

Take them to the vet. Most vets will work with you on the cost. You also can surrender them at the vet's office and they will fix their eyes and take them to a shelter where they will have a better chance of finding a home. Not all shelters kill.Like the one near my home, they ship them around to other shelters in the state until they find the cat a home.
Good Luck

Call a cat rescue, you may be able to find listings for them on Petfinder.com. You can also try calling a vet and asking for advise..just tell them you found these kittens and ask for help.

this is cruelty to animals. You need to take them to the vets they can either work out a payment plan or possibly be able to find them a foster home to care for them.
It is your responsibility to get them to the vets it is the LAW

Give them to the vet. If you give em' to the Humane Society, they'll surely be put down.
