Do you think God wanted this to happen? Going by what's in the Bible, do you think God wanted Christians to sing praises to Maria and call her our mother?

On this Catholic channel I have, whenever I turn it there people are saying "hail Mary...ect" "Mary mother of God" "Holy Mary" and alot of the time the only time Jesus is mentioned is in the context of being the Son of Mary.

I've never seen anywhere in the Bible, that Christians should sing praises to Mary, or even pray to her to be good christians.

Do you think that anyone, apart from Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, should be praised in such a way. Since praising is a type of worship, could Mary be considered a false idol??

Alot of people say that they do not worship Mary, but that's hard for me to believe, but this is just my oppinion.

Shouldn't there be a certain standard we hold ourselves to as christians? Couldn't people be confused to see us singing these things, when our main focus should be Christ?

I dont agree at all Justin, if Mary didn't cooperate He would have simply gone to another woman. My thing is according to the Bible, not traditions or ceremonies, if we were to go strictly by biblical teaching, would we do things like this?

Passage Mark 3:31-38:

31Then Jesus' mother and brothers arrived. Standing outside, they sent someone in to call him. 32A crowd was sitting around him, and they told him, "Your mother and brothers are outside looking for you."

33"Who are my mother and my brothers?" he asked.

34Then he looked at those seated in a circle around him and said, "Here are my mother and my brothers! 35Whoever does God's will is my brother and sister and mother."

I think it is a subtle ploy created by Satan, to take the focus away from God Almighty and Jesus Christ and to TRY and elevate Mary to their perfect, immortal Deity.

Mary was a human, not immortal.
Mary was flawed, not perfect.
Mary was a virgin, but she did not remain so. She and Joseph had 5 other children. (3 sons, several daughters).
Mary never prophesied.
She never performed miracles.
When anyone approached Mary to intercede for them or to
help them or to countermand Jesus, she pointed them to Jesus, she adhered to Jesus' teaching or held with Jesus' words.
Mary aged, faded, & died.

Personally, I think Mary would be horrified, embarassed, and ashamed to know that people prayed to her; worshiped her, and/or sought to elevate her to that of God or Jesus' image.

I don't think God wanted this to happen. In both the OT & the NT, the Bible explicitly says that idolatry [the worship of anyone or anything other than God the Father, God the Son & God the Holy Ghost, a.k.a. the Trinity] is a sin. Praying is communication with a deity, and if you aren't praying to God, you are trying to communicate with an idol.

While I don't think that there's anything wrong with singing praises or hymns ABOUT her [think of Christmas Carols], there is definitely something wrong with singing them to her. She's dead & can't hear or help us. She was a human being, like any of us, but had great faith in her God, such that he chose her, sinful & human as she was, to give birth to His Son Jesus. Giving birth to Jesus didn't deify her. Check out her actions & reactions regarding her Divine Son.

Only God should be praised or prayed to [communicating again]. If you attempt to communicate to someone dead in the hopes of affecting something here on earth, as in Mary, ancestor worship, saints, icons, etc. you are giving them godlike position in your worship.

Christians strive to be Christ-like in their thoughts, actions, etc. No where in the Bible does it say that Christ prayed to Mary or any other dead person, including Moses or Elijah. The Bible says that all those who believe in Him are saints; not that they will answer prayers of those still on earth.

I think that praying to Mary, or singing to Mary isn't bad at all. IF anything, the protestant Christians should be concerned. After all we created the term Rapture, and that's not biblical. Here we are, doing what God specifically told us not to. Adding things to the Bible. Tisk Tisk.

I suppose that the point of my answer is this : if the most important thing you do with your day is pick apart another Christian branch, then you need to get out more. What does it matter how we worship, as long as we are just doing what we are supposed to do? Speaking out against another Christian, when they've done nothing wrong, is completely pointless. It's like no one can be happy unless SOMEONE is being blamed for something.

We're all Children of God. Get off of your high horse.

The Fathers of the Church taught that Mary received a number of distinctive blessings in order to make her a more fitting mother for Christ and the prototypical Christian (follower of Christ). These blessings included her role as the New Eve (corresponding to Christ’s role as the New Adam), her Immaculate Conception, her spiritual motherhood of all Christians, and her Assumption into heaven. These gifts were given to her by God’s grace. She did not earn them, but she possessed them nonetheless.

The key to understanding all these graces is Mary’s role as the New Eve, which the Fathers proclaimed so forcefully. Because she is the New Eve, she, like the New Adam, was born immaculate, just as the First Adam and Eve were created immaculate. Because she is the New Eve, she is mother of the New Humanity (Christians), just as the first Eve was the mother of humanity. And, because she is the New Eve, she shares the fate of the New Adam. Whereas the First Adam and Eve died and went to dust, the New Adam and Eve were lifted up physically into heaven.

Of particular interest in the following quotations from the Fathers are those that speak of Mary’s immaculate nature. We will all one day be rendered immaculate (sinless), but Mary, as the prototypical Christian, received this grace early. God granted her freedom from sin to make her a fitting mother for his Son.

Even before the terms "original sin" and "immaculate conception" had been defined, early passages imply the doctrines. Many works mention that Mary gave birth to Jesus without pain. But pain in childbearing is part of the penalty of original sin (Gen. 3:16). Thus, Mary could not have been under that penalty. By God’s grace, she was immaculate in anticipation of her Son’s redemptive death on the cross. The Church therefore describes Mary as "the most excellent fruit of redemption" (CCC 508).

"[T]he report concerning the child was noised abroad in Bethlehem. Some said, ‘The Virgin Mary has given birth before she was married two months.’ And many said, ‘She has not given birth; the midwife has not gone up to her, and we heard no cries of pain’" (Ascension of Isaiah 11 [A.D. 70]).

"So the Virgin became a mother with great mercies. And she labored and bore the Son, but without pain, because it did not occur without purpose. And she did not seek a midwife, because he caused her to give life. She bore as a strong man, with will . . . " (Odes of Solomon 19 [A.D. 80]).

"[Jesus] became man by the Virgin so that the course which was taken by disobedience in the beginning through the agency of the serpent might be also the very course by which it would be put down. Eve, a virgin and undefiled, conceived the word of the serpent and bore disobedience and death. But the Virgin Mary received faith and joy when the angel Gabriel announced to her the glad tidings that the Spirit of the Lord would come upon her and the power of the Most High would overshadow her, for which reason the Holy One being born of her is the Son of God. And she replied ‘Be it done unto me according to your word’ [Luke 1:38]" (Dialogue with Trypho the Jew 100 [A.D. 155]).

+ Praise +

In Luke 1:48, Mary prophesied: "From henceforth all generations shall call me blessed (holy)."

A question for Christians who take the Bible literally: Do you call Mary "blessed"? If no, why?

Praise is an expression of approval, commendation, or admiration, not worship.

We praise our children, our spouses, and our parents. These people are loved and valued, not false idols.

God praised the Blessed Virgin Mary through His messenger, the angel Gabriel, "Hail, Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you."

If God and his angels praise Mary, shouldn't we?

+ Mary, our mother +

While he was on the Cross, Jesus said to his beloved disciple (who represents all Christians), "This is your mother." (John 19:27)

+ The Hail Mary Prayer +

The Hail Mary prayer simply recites Bible passages (the Word of God) and asks Mary to pray for us:

Hail Mary Full of grace, the Lord is with you. (These are the words the angel Gabriel said to Mary, a Bible quote.)

Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. (This is Mary's cousin Elizabeth's greeting, another bible quote.)

Holy Mary, (The angel Gabriel said she was full of grace and Elizabeth said she was blessed.)

Mother of God, (the Bible says Mary is the mother of Jesus Christ, God the Son)

Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. (A simple request to pray for us.)

Amen.

+ With love in Christ.

What is wrong with loving and honoring your Mother like the Bible says. During the Rosary we also say the Our Faith, a prayer Jesus told us to pray 5 times and several Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy spirit. We love our family so are you jealous they are not your family members too or what?

We pray it 5 times during the Rosary--not that Jesus told us to pray it 5 times. Jesus told us to pray it and we pray it 5 times. Now does that make sense?

If it is improper to praise and honor Mary, then it is also improper and praise children when they have done something particularly well. If praising is worship, then your children would also be considered a false idol.

As far as praying to Mary - Paul asked his followers to pray for him. This is the same as Catholics asking Mary to pray for us.

Mary is the mother of christ and should be praised. If you don't belive that then you don't have to watch the show. But, think about it. Mary gave birth to the son of God. She was without sin and is very holy. If you pray to her she can help you.

Should your main focus be "Christ"? Or should it be God? You say Jesus IS God, but I still don't know why you don't focus on God more than Jesus.

What I'm getting at is that each sect has its own strange non-Biblical traditions and ceremonies and way of worshiping your God. How can you pretend anyone knows the "correct" way.

particular, of direction Jesus could be getting compliment; and he probably gets it. As many have stated right here, we provide Jesus and God the father extra compliment than mom Mary. 2nd as many have stated, the angel asked Mary a question and he or she stated particular. She chosen to grant start to Jesus, and Mary gave start to Jesus, raised him, enjoyed him, and replaced into at his area with the aid of his crucifixion and resurrection. 0.33, as Sha stated, the saints pray for US. Sha is right. What does it say in the Hail Mary prayer? whilst we pray, we ask her to "pray for us, sinners". She is constantly prayed to with the aid of human beings throughout. i like to call her Heaven's busiest woman. Her particular to the angel began her provider to the Lord, and over 2 millennia later her provider maintains. She is a SERVANT; and is probably worth of compliment.
