I am at a loss! My daughter is 4 and we have been in the potty training stage for months! If she wears regular underwear she will use her potty for #1 but she will just go #2 in her pants. If we go to town she will not tell me she needs to use the restroom, she will just go to the bathroom where she stands. It seems like I have tried every trick in the book to get her trained and nothing seems to click! Now it's summer and she can't be in any of the programs because she still wets her pants! Please help

Have her help you clean up the dirty underpants. That worked wonders for my son. I knew he was capable, he just didn't want to stop doing whatever he was doing. Hope it helps with her too.

My older son finally potty trained at 3 but he always had a hard time going #2 in a "new" bathroom or when we were out. I've heard this is very common.

If you can stay close to home for a few weeks and get into the habit of going #2 on the potty it may help. I have had a lot of people say the reward system works great (M&M's). They also have great integrated toilet seats (a real seat with a kids seat built in). I think they are by Potty Pal.

We have a 4 year old son who was just recently potty trained. We had a similar problem with getting him to go #2.
It sounds really harsh, but what worked for us was telling him that he was a big boy, and if he pooped in his pants, he would have to wash them himself. He washed his own underwear twice before he decided to just use the potty.

As for the problem with not going on the potty when she isn't at home, she may just be to preoccupied with whatever you are doing to realize she has to go. Start taking her to the potty every half hour or so while you are not home, until she has a better understanding of it.

well I know boys and girls differ with this and I'm a mother of 2 boys ages 5 and 3. The 3 year old just started doing the whole potty thing for real. He too was just like your daughter until I started reading books with him while he was on the potty. I even gave him a glass of water. About every 15-20 minutes I'd ask if he waned to read a book and we sat him down on the pottty and one day it clicked.

Potty training is the hardest, especially as your child gets older because they keep outsmarting all of your best efforts! First, if she's 4, then she's old enough to help clean herself up. When she messes, have HER put it in the potty and help clean herself up. Some children have a really hard time using public restrooms - my little dude will not go in if it is messy, at all! If you're using pull-ups, stop - have her wear underwear all the time and if you can, let her stay wet when it happens. As soon as she figures out the mommy and daddy are not going to rescue her every time, she'll stop.

Have you tried the rewards program. It usually works, my daughter did the same thing but i started the games and it really worked. I also used the pull ups when we left the house.
