My BC loves to play ball. I play it with her everyday and we run around alot. I give her lots of exercise and we train her mental skills on the commands that I have already taught her. She also is in an agility class, although we have only been in it for 16 weeks. The class doesn't start up again til September.

Alright, so my dog is very.... protective and territorial. She snaps at any dogs that get near her tennis ball, or any other toy. She is fine with dogs until they show that they want to be dominent (if they are her size or smaller) Also, for attention, she will fight for it. If I am petting another dog, then she will get offended and snap at the dog. She is only 10 months and I am very worried it will turn into something I don't want like aggresion. She's a very sweet dog and loves people and acts great til a new dog comes and I am afraid for her.

Is there any advice that I can work with that will help my dog not be so ......however she is ^ ^ ^ ?? Thanks for any advice!!

Well, you need to correct her every time she snaps. You can give her leash a sharp tug as well as a verbal correction. You will probably have better luck if you talk to her trainer. Most trainers don't mind if you call for advice especially if they have previously worked with a particular animal. The aggression has to stop now. She may need more obedience training to get over it.

I am a dog trainer and behaviorist

What she is doing is posessing you and her toys.

When she gets snippy about a toy, make her leave it and stand between her and it until she sits or lies down ingoring the toy. She may also walk away.

This is called claiming the toy until she surrenders it.

For the issue of you petting another dog, Make her sit where she is then remove her from the situation for 2 minutes. She will catch on fast.

Borders are awesome! I have one too!

Border collies are VERY territorial anyway. When we used to take ours out when she was younger if another dog came near us, she would snap at them. What we used to do is take an obvious looking water pistol out (when i say obvious i mean bright pink or green not black, just incase sumone mistakes it) and if it goes for another dog just give it a squirt. Over time it will associate this bad behaviour with getting squirted and will stop it.
