Any time we have major life changes, especially with major career change, we are subject to depression. You have gone from mama military to being all on your own and sometimes it's difficult to remember how to motivate yourself instead of having someone do the motivating for you.

Go to the VA for some re-entry/transition counseling and see if you can't get some help through other VETS (Veterans Employment and Training Service) programs. If you do make use of them, make sure you get plenty of contact numbers--you are far from alone in experiencing this--lean on your fellow soldiers because they know exactly what you're going through!

It sounds like it just may be a matter of figuring out *what* you want to do and career counseling will help with that. Once you have found meaningful employment, you will wake up each day with a different outlook.

Hang in there and good luck and thanks for your service!!

There has been a lot of good advice put forth - Take it.

I was right where you were one day in '93 after I got out. Don't let it get to you. It got to me for awhile but I got through it with the help of friends, family and going back to school. That and the woman who eventually became my wife and best friend kicked me in the *** and told me to get off that sorry, lazy *** that she just kicked and do something with your life and dragged my butt into the admin office at the local university and got me to enroll. Next thing you know, my life was looking up. I became happy again. I had a purpose.

Go find your purpose, and college is good place to start.

Are you just out?

Go to the VA Mental Health Clinic in your area and schedule an appointment ASAP. Every US Vet needs to enroll with the VA, and if you are a Retired Vet then you should also have Tri-care and be able to recieve care in a Military Hospital as well.

Do it now.

Hey there,

Life is basically a game. In the military you had your game with team mates and a purpose. Now you are out of the military that game is over.

The thing to do is start a new game. The first thing you need in a game is the purpose, or the goal. Once you have that you will find you have certain freedoms in working towards that goal and certain barriers that get in the way. Happiness is overcoming those barriers on the way to your (achievable) goal.

Hey, Jesse!!! The VA clinic or hospital is where you are going to be refered. But, right now I would really like if you would either go to www.militarysourceone.com or telephone 1-800-342-9647. ASK FOR HELP!!!! Look Brother, I've been where you are at and the best thing I have EVER DONE was call that number. Good Luck

Leaving the military can be a major life change. You should seek counseling if you feel that your adjustment period is not successful or if you have trouble coping/finctioning, as in not being able to hold down a job.

Thats how it is with allot of people. My Family is really war involved. This happened with my Dad, Uncles, Grandpas and further down. It takes a while to get back to the American Social life.

Don't Worry. If you do good things it will come your way. God knows all of our troubles. So he will help you with them.
I Have respect in you cause you helped this country. I hope you do good in life.

I didn't have that problem coming off active duty but I did coming back from Fallujah. I won't say it's "normal" but it's ocurred with many people. You need to sit down and chat with someone about it. Then check into your local college and start exercising your brain matter... it will help! Don't sit around and think about how boring life is, cause it is, try to find something to fight that boredom!
