They don't dismiss the word they dismiss the idea.
The round Earth
Gravity
Evolution
etc..
Have all encountered resistance but it didn't matter if it was called a theory or a guess or law.

We know there are two meanings. We completely understand your faith in evolution. You choose it as fact - we don't. As has been stated over and over again, the evidence is the same for all of us. You choose to apply your preconceived beliefs and we ours. Here's the kicker. Neither side can prove it beyond a shadow of doubt that their belief is the right one. If they could, there would be no argument. But because you can't prove what you think is fact, it remains a theory in the sense we say it is. So you can believe in your delusion as much as you'd like. It is exactly what we say it is. Conjecture or theory, the choice is yours. There isn't a scientist alive who would bet his life on this theory as being a fact. It just isn't so.

What is "it", the term "theory" is that what you're talking about.
If so, it does not matter what word you call it, if it is not proven than it not proven simple as that.
For James below, there are two different meanings of theory.
One kind of theory is conjecture or speculation, the other is a mathematical or logical explanation, or a testable model, such as the theory of gravity.
The former term "theory" are those not proven, the latter term "theory" are scientific explanations that are proven.

Yes. I don't think they realized what would happen.
I know... lets make a movement to change it from theory to "pipaw". It will still mean scientific theory (not theory for those idiots that don't understand the two as being different) but it will be a different word. Maybe they'll be stupid enough to take it to mean something else, the way they expect us to take Intelligent Design to mean something other than Creationism.

Definitely, but even Einstein couldn't have guessed at the number of people who PREFER to live in the stone age. Hell,I don't think ANYONE could have predicted that people would stubbornly hold onto their own definition of theory as "a guess"Regardless of any education people try to bring to them. They don't care, they WANT theory to mean "A guess" and they have no evidence of their own. NONE,NADA. The entire extent of their "evidence" boils down to "I don't understand TOE"If the scientists would have realized that people will desperately cling to ignorance, absolutely refusing to listen to reason, they would have used another term

The only idiots, are the ones who take what they are told as gospel truth, and have no more evidence of it than of anything else. Either Scientists or Religious People. No offence.
Much love.

Science is honest. A theory must be tested and retested many many times before they call it a law ( proven idea ).
On the other hand, religion has nothing but superstitious ideas to go on. There is not even an attempt to prove he existance of "god".

No. that's what it is. It's a Theory, not a law. It is studied and tested and has been proven beyond a reasonable doubt but there's always holes in it, no matter how small.

You mean theories like gravity?
It doesn't matter what you call it. If an explanation contradicts a persons religious beliefs, and they are uninformed, they will dismiss it.

People don't seem to understand that a scientific theory is as close as you can come to a fact in science.
