I see christians and atheists all the time complaining on here that they are being disrespected. Take a look at this question.. is this the kind of "respect" you'd like shown to your beliefs? I know most faiths have a "golden rule".. that treat others as you want to be treated. I just wondered how you all apply it in this instance:

You know, if someone (of any point of view) posts a question here that's clearly nothing more than posturing or stirring the s**t, then I have no problem with everyone giving them both barrels.
But the example you show here just looks like a sweet kid asking a legitimate question in a direct and intelligent way. I'd tell the folks here to save the vitriol for the ******* who deserve it - there are certainly plenty of them here (probably including me)!

The majority of my friends do not share my religious beliefs. My particular denomination of Christianity is a minority in my area. I get along with non-Christians (and Christians of other denominations) just fine. I show them respect, despite the fact that I sometimes find myself disagreeing with their views. True, there are some people who feel a need to openly attack my beliefs, but I respond calmly, with kindness. In the case of the question you cited, the proper response would have been to either answer the question at hand honestly, or to navigate off the page and simply not answer it. Personally, had I answered the question, I probably would've directed the questioner to the Witchvox website, or recommended some books by Scott Cunningham or other authors who have written beginning level books on the subject. I might've needed a bit more information than the questioner provided, though, to give a more informed answer than that. I wouldn't have answered it by giving some sort of testimonial for my own religion, because that's not what was being asked for.

Most of the answers just show a lack of knowledge...willful ignorance even. But, unlike blatant disrespect, ignorance can be cured.

Having said that, I have been know to have a rant every now & then too so I can hardly claim to be perfect. I would respect christianity a lot more if they kept to themselves. That's about the only religion I DON'T respect because of that.

Sorry i don't follow paths around cyber land!

Each person has a right to believe in what or who they want!

Whether I think most people are deluding themselves isn't for me to say, they make their own choices base on how they perceive life and and the events that take place in their lives!

Live long and prosper!

If I'd of known of the witchcraft question I'd have probably only suggested a simple white path, like Wicca, I'd have never of gave her any pointers to be a real witch!

No I'm not a trekky but its a good saying i think!

pretty sad huh? But from what I have witnessed that is about par for the course on here; you get alot of crap answers and maybe 3 good ones that are worth further investigation. I must admit though that even though I try to give good answers some questions from some of these "certain people" on here do not warrant anything but flippancy. Hopefully I have been able to tell the difference and have not hurt anyone too much

I have a live and let live approach when it comes to other religions and try to treat all with respect until they give me a reason not to. Even Evangelizing Christians don't really bother me since I know they are just doing what their religion tells them they must do, so I can't really fault them for it. I just humour them, maybe tell them "no thank you" and move on cause it's not worth getting worked up over. Same with hardcore militant atheists and others.

I took a comparative religion class and that made me learned about lots of religion, I've always been accepting of different beliefs but that class made me understood other beliefs. So since as a christian i hate it when people make certain remakes i choose to treat others as i wish to be treated.

It's not my intention but I find I can get snippy with some of the christians but I have never attacked someone for wanting to learn. I have been on the receiving end of that. A real turn off to the religion that they want you to be part of.

I was required to take a comparative religions class in school, so that helped open my mind to other ways of worship. Everyone will complain somehow about other beliefs..you have I know.
