Who knows? Animals do weird things. You should videotape it and enter it in a funny videos show. ;D

Birds do not understand reflections. They see the reflection of the outside in the window and fly right into it. If they could see through the window and into the house then would not fly into it. If you have ever had a caged bird (a parakeet) and hung a mirror in the cage you will get a good demonstration that birds do not understand reflections.

If he is flying, he may not realize he is headed for a window. Birds do not understand the concept of glass. If he can see through it, he thinks he can go through it. You can keep him from doing that by closing the blinds/curtains, or applying decals to the window, so he can see it.
If he is actively attacking the window, it is because he sees his reflection in the glass, and thinks it is another bird. He is protecting his territory. He'll stop when breeding season is over, or you could place something in front of the window so he can't see his reflection anymore.

I'm not sure, but my next-door-neighbor had a picture window installed, and had problems with birds flying into it until she put up a couple of sun catchers. Maybe this will help.

Birds obviously don't see windows, i have had birds kill themselves by slamming in to my windows and my screen door.
