My friend is convinced it's in Virginia. Because she is from there and we were saying VA had no hockey team...or football team. They just use D.C. I think DC is its own place. (I'm from maryland but lived in DC for a couple years.

What is it? or where is it?

it is actually its own separate district. It is not part of virginia, but not a state. It is located between maryland and virginia.

the d.c. stands for district of columbia. it is also the capital of the united states. Probably similar in nature to the vatican in Italy.

see attached for all that you would ever want to know about it.

DC is the District of Columbia, and it is outside any of the 50 states (and without a voice in Congress as any DC voter will tell you). When the Federal City was founded back in 1800, both Virginia and Maryland gave up some land to create a 10 by 10 mile square that became the District of Columbia.

Originally there were multiple towns in DC - Georgetown, DC and Washington, DC - but over the years they were combined into one city. The Virginia portion of the district, which is Arlington, was returned to Virginia.

The Washington Football Team, by the way, plays in Maryland. Virginia does not have a professional hockey team or football team.

District of Columbia is its own place. it does not belong to any state. it borders on both states.
