I have a 5 month old standard poodle puppy, what an amazingly calm dog but when I am in the house, the dog is constantly following me and when I walk, he walks in front of me, or way to close to me. I have had him for a week, he is still getting used to being at a new home and there were 5 other dogs where he was at, now its just him and 2 cats, who wont give him the time of day yet.

You took him away from his friends and he's lonesome. Take him to training class and learn how to spend quality time with him and how to direct and control him instead of just waiting to see what he's going to do.

Give your new puppy some time to readjust to his new home & hopefully the excitement will begin to wane.

Just in case it doesn't, you can use positive enforcement to help change his behavior patterns. When he walks in front of you, bend over & move him to your side. Then you PRAISE PRAISE PRAISE for him walking where you want him to.

You could also put him on a leash & tie it around your waist, so that you can better control where he walks. Always correct the bad action as it is happening, and praise/give a treat when he is doing the right thing.

Obedience classes also work really well for heeling & things of this nature. Good luck!

Just be patient and your pup will stop on his own. I think all pups do that. I know mine sure did and I was worried that it would go on forever, but eventually she figured out that she had to get out of the way. I remember one time she showed up in front of me while I was walking down the hall and next thing I knew she was shot by an accidental kick right across the floor. She wasn't hurt, but I think that's when she started to figure it out. That and the sore paws from being stepped on.

Yes, let him get used to his surroundings. And, he is just a puppy. Puppies can be clumsy, and they're discovering the human parts.

He is so worried about where you are and if he will be left again or moved again, etc. It's natural and as he becomes used to his new place in this new world his confidence will adjust.
