I have brother and sister now for almost 5 years and my belief is that because they have been together since before they were born, they have a particular affinity for one another that I have rarely seen in other cat relationships. King Tut, the male, who is aprrox 20 lbs. and 3x his sister's size, is very gallant and chivalrous, always allowing her to eat first, never getting in her way when she is maneuvering around the house and he lets her use the litter box first. I call him a "Momma Luke" behind his back.
Whereas Sheba is very tiny and silky and has a distinct personality. She cares for her brother deeply. She preens him and makes sure he has enough room wherever they are lying.
So, if I were you, keep the brother and sister. They keep each other company, especially if you were to go away for a trip. I just came back from Hawai'i and it's like they just had each other and that was all that mattered!

Calicos are gorgeous, I can understand you being tempted. The gender of the kittens doesn't really matter, But littermates DO love being together forever.
Basically
How badly do you want the calico?
Will you feel guilty at all for separating the littermates when you could've kept them together? Cats adapt to any situation, but like I said, littermates like being together. But they'll get over it if they're not.
Which one would have the best chance of finding another good home if you didn't take it?

I think you will be ok whichever way you choose. I have two females and one male and they all get along great. My females play and chase each other but dont cuddle with each other much. But each of the females will cuddle with the male since he is always starved for their attention lol. I would probably keep the littermates. Littermates just make such great pals with each other. Just make sure you save the cash to ahve them both fixed at 4-6 months gl!

I have had cats all my life, and while I've always been partial to female litter mates, by accident (mamma got out before being fixed), I now have a mamma and her two male children. The boys do scrap once in a while, but they each battle with mamma on ocassion as well, and they don't battle any more than my female litter mates did. Its almost as though the boys have a certain respect for mamma and they are twice her size. Its very interesting and amuzing to watch the little family battles for position and authority that goes on between the three of them. The boys are so bonded to each other that I think one would probably get sick if something happened to the other, or if the other was gone for any period of time. They are fantastic together, each with very distinct personalities. They are neutered and about four years old now and I would not trade having raised them together for anything. They also make it much easier to be able to take time away, as they are great companions for one another. Litter mates have a strong bond formed before birth and it doesn't matter what their sex is. Just get them fixed as soon as it is safe and healthy to do so.

i think you should get the two females. but, if you do, you might want to spay them so you don't end up owning two pregnant cats. normally a male and a female that aren't littermates get along, but im not sure about littermates? female and female get along though.

Are you going to let them breed? If not get them newted no matter if its males or femles mixed together, they are more friendly, they dont spay in your house leaving thier scent and when a female is on heat she keeps you awake for a few nights screaming the house down!
I've had cats 9 years and i have 3 female and 2 males, no problems with them... Good luck

From my own experience, and I've had plenty: have the littermates bonded? I mean do they seem attached to one another? if so, I'd keep them. If they don't seem especially attached, I would keep one and get the other. Don't you just hate when husbands do that?!

The two females or a female and male will do equally well together. There will be their share of disagreements whether they are litter mates or not. Just make sure that you get them fixed right away. Have fun.
