This depends on what kind you have, I had a great off the boat Italian woman Mrs Campisi who taught me how to make the 4 day spagetti sauce...if you just make if from cans it is about 2 hrs, but if you make it the day ahead and heat it up again it has twice the flavor..if you are pulling it out of a jar it is about 10min...hope it helps

If you're making sauce with canned ingredients (not sauce out of a jar), the longer it simmers, the better the flavors will meld. I used to always use canned tomato sauce, mushrooms, cut up canned tomatoes, and tomato paste, plus ground beef, onions, green peppers, garlic, bay leaf, oregano and dried parsley. ( I grew up in Alaska, so we didn't have fresh tomatoes to make our own sauce.) Once the meat and onions were browned, I added the other ingredients, and let it all simmer on low for an hour or two. Stir the sauce occasionally, and adjust seasoning to taste.

You can always look up a recipe in a cookbook or on the Web. Try Epicurious, Chowhound, or Food Network.

Until it's done of Course.....actually after you cooked the Sauce, let her cool off put in the Fridge and reheat the next Day. It usually turn's out better than the first Day.......

Me, personally? I make homemade sauce and literally start in the morning and it cooks all day. All the flavors really come together.

Well, if you are making it from scratch you would cook it as long as the recipe calls for. Otherwise follow the instructions on the can.
