Absolutely not too old. I know 3 women your age or older who have gotten tattoos - one who's 75, one who's a retired teacher, and one who's a dance instructor and involved in healthcare. They are all definitely the young at heart and would just as soon smack someone who told them they were "too old" to have their tattoos.
In fact, I think the teacher did just that. :) She got her second along with her grandaughter when they both became very attached to some henna work they'd gotten.
As a culture, we need to get away from the idea that once you're past a certain age you need to be hidden away. Otherwise: "How can you get a tattoo? You're so old at 28..."

I badly sprained my ankle about 3 weeks ago. I was in a hurry going down the stairs, lost my balance and landed on a bad side of my left foot, causing my left ankle to be stretched going on the inside. The first 48 hours were excruciating and the pain was un-believable. I've never had a serious ankle injury before.
So I immediately treated it using the RICE method. The following day, the bruising and swelling were so horrible. I found out that I got a second degree sprain and immediately panicked after that. I had a football game on that week and it been looking forward to it because I've been training for rt. I had teammates that had similar injuries and it took them months to fully recover, some of them stopped playing altogether. So I kinda had a short-term depression because I can't imagine myself not being able to run and play sports anymore.
Because I was so desperate to recover again, I contacted a lot of people that I know who do sports and asked them if they had similar injuries. One friend of mine, from the boy's football team in my university, told me about H.E.M. Ankle Rehab. I got a copy 4 days after I got injured. I immediately read and followed what was instructed and felt improvement on the first day. I was able to walk a bit, but I was in pain.
A couple of days after that, the swelling and bruising were subsid-ing significantly and on the fourth day, I was walking comfortably again. Although I've had felt a bit of stiffness, I continued doing what was instructed. My sister was surprised that I have recovered this fast. I told her about this book and was shocked on how effective the procedures were. I'm just so happy that this book was shared to me and how effective it is.
Heal your ankle fully & fast?

For all the people that believe that 55 is too old to get a tattoo; how many of them realize that the tattoo they get at age 25 will still be there when they're 55?? Go for it!

I am a younger woman, with children. I work in a very conservative CPA firm, and I currently have two, smaller tattooes. I would think age would be irrelevant, as long as you wanted the tattoo and it meant something to you. Perhaps something to symbolize a great passion in your life? Or a new goal, or transforming event? As long as yoru happy with it, and it is special to you, for whatever reason, then yes, 55 is the perfect age for a tattoo!

I have a story and I feel it applies here. I got my tongue pierced the day after I turned 18. When I got mine done, my mom decided to get hers done. She was 41. She told the piercer she was probably too old to be doing this. He told her no she wasn't. The day before a woman had come in to have her VCH pierced for her 75th birthday.
You're never too old. Do it if you want to do it. You only live once.

I think if you want it- GET IT!
I don't think you are ever too old to do something you want to do. Plus, at 55, you are probably pretty sure about what you want to get, so you're less likely to get some weird "fad" tattoo that you will regret in a few years.
Go for it!!!

Hi, I am 48 and getting my sixth work done the first week in July! Just make sure they use new needles and sterile equipment, and they come highly recommended and have a good reputation of their work from their customers.
Good luck to you! Oh, and it's not as painful as you might think. To me its like a warm pin being dragged across your arm.
Take care and enjoy your day!

I just got a tatoo between my shoulder blades near my neck area. I am 51, sometimes you can see it if I wear a shirt that's cut low, but most of the time it's hidden. I love it. It's my name in arabic, very simple script. I never thought I would get one, but I like it and everyone that's seen it likes it too.
