yes this is possible.. its even handier when using sata & ide drive, say ya install vista on the sata drive which is set till boot it will boot till vista if ya install xp on the ide drive and set it till boot till it *by changing the boot sequence from sata drive till ide on bios* it will boot xp, this is the easiest way. if ya looking it installed on the one drive you will need something called partion magic that will make an extra partion of the hard drive where vista is installed for space to install xp! then with a boot manager you can change between the two os.

Yes wouldn't recommend it though since you are installing a new version it would be different if you were installing a new version on old version but new to old your computer may not be able to cope with it.
