Is there a place I can download a free word processor that can read Word files?

Someone told me this was available, but I'm not sure where the best place to go is? I'm tired of using word pad!

As people listed above, OpenOffice.org is your best option for if you want to download an office suite. Although there is one more option that I would try out Google Docs ( http://docs.google.com ). With this, you are able to upload your MS Word file and edit it online for free. It saves automatically on Google servers so you can access the file anywhere. You can save it as whatever file format you want. Try it, you have nothing to lose.

http://openoffice.org has a program that can use word, excel and powerpoint files.

You can also go to microsoft.com and download a Word viewer. It lets you open, read and print Word files, but not edit or create.

I use OpenOffice, it's totally free and can open, edit and save as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.) formats.
