The great advantage of oily skin is that it ages at a slower rate than other skin types.
Oily skin needs special cleansing with plenty of hot water and soap to prevent the pores from being clogged. Avoid harsh products that strip your skin of oil and encourage flakiness. They can cause a reaction known as reactive seborrhoea, where the oil glands work overtime to compensate for the loss of natural oils.
Avoid skincare products that leave your skin feeling taut and dehydrated. They cause the upper layers of the skin to shrink. This restricts oil flow through the pores leading to blockages and breakouts.
To cleanse oily skin, use oil-based products as they dissolve sebum effectively. Opt for oil-free moisturizers to maintain a shine-free complexion.
Keep your skin very clean. Limit washing your face to two or three times a day. Too much washing will stimulate your skin to produce more oil.
Choose your cleanser with care. Avoid heavy cleansing creams. Avoid the use of harsh soaps or cleansers. Use a pure soap with no artificial additives. Try an antibacterial cleansing lotion or a lightly medicated soap, and use it in combination with a water rich in minerals, not tap water. Do not use cleansers or lotions that contain alcohol. After cleansing, apply a natural oil-free moisturizer to keep the skin supple.
Use hot water when washing your face. Hot water dissolves skin oil better than lukewarm or cold water.
If your skin is extremely oily, three or four daily cleansings may be in order and little or no moisturizing necessary before you are 30 years old. After that point, the skin around your eyes and mouth and on your throat may benefit from a nightly moisturizing, plus a mere touch of moisturizer in the morning.
When cleansing, massage your face well with your fingertips, using an upward and outward motion. Be careful not to rub soap into the skin; it can clog pores.
If your oily skin is scaly, you can often correct the problem by using a deep-cleaning exfoliant on alternate nights, and following the treatment with a light coating of moisturizer.
Try using a clay or mud mask. If you have sensitive skin, use white or rose-colored clays.
Use a light antiseptic night cream from time to time if you wish, and apply a clarifying mask one or two times a week.
Choose cosmetic and facial care products specifically designed for oily skin.
Before applying makeup, use an antiseptic day cream with active ingredients that diminish sebaceous secretions. Look for benzyl peroxide in the list of active ingredients.
Use a light antiseptic night cream from time to time if you wish, and apply a clarifying mask one or two times a week.

No - do not clean your face every time it gets oily.
You should clean your face twice a day - three times a day max. In the morning & evening try a cleanser w/ benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. (e.g. Oxy 10 face wash, Aveeno Positively Clear cleansing pads, Neutrogena products) If you must wash your face mid-day, then try something a little milder like Cetaphil or Dove for sensitive skin or just use an oil blotting sheet. Clean & Clear makes good oil blotting sheets.
Masks can help too - try a clay mask like Origin's charcoal mask or Beauty w/o Cruelty.
Neutrogena Clear Pore Cleanser/Mask has both benzoyl peroxide & clay. It works better as a mask. You can use it 1-3 times a week.
One home remedy that can be used each evening is plain milk of magnesia. Shake the bottle well, apply a thin layer & let it dry for 15-20 minutes. Rinse off w/ tepid water & a face cloth. This will absorb excess oil & refresh your pores.
Lastly, consider consulting your doctor or a dermatologist about prescription products like Retin-A, Differin, etc. Prescription med.s can really help keep your skin clear and avoid scarring/marks from acne.

First off, oily skin may seem annoying now, but actually, oily skin helps prevent wrinkles! When your older, if you wear sunscreen, and take care of it and all that, you'll thank the fact that your skin is oily! I'd actually stay away from Proactiv. It can be pretty harsh and may increase the oil in your skin. I'd recommend Origins. Also, if there is a dermatologist by you, it might be a good idea to get stuff prescribed to you there, because it'll be perfectly tailored to your skin tone. If not, Bare Minerals has some great makeup to battle the oil in your skin and balance it out. Hope this helps. : )

it is important to cleanse your face often. if u have lots of acne, then u should wash your face 3-5 times day. It's good to stay away from make-up. You do not need to clean your face every time it gets oily, but if you want to because it refreshes your skin, you can. As long as you're using natural cures to get rid of acne, and washing your ace, everything should be fine eventually. Everyone has a different skin type, so it doesn't matter if you have oily, dry, or in between skin. If your face gets dry sometime in the furture, then you should apply lots of cream and lotion daily. Your best bet is something with aloe vera.

don't wash your face to many times with harsh cleansers, that could be harsh on your skin and cause even more acne! Wash your face twice a day with a Neutrogena acne product (works for me). Don't be afraid to use makeup, just make sure its oil free. Instead of reapplying powder to get rid of oil throughout the day, use blotting paper- very cheap and available at most drugstores.

Actually this will hurt but will also help. Rinse your skin with rubbing alcohol and it will help with the acne and also the oil. I clean with a cleaner and always put alcohol on cotton and completely ub my entire face. I use no lotions at night and it has made a world of difference in the oil....

Over cleansing will strip your skin of natural oils which are necessary, & will cause your skin to produce more oil.
Instead try Arbonne's Clear Advantage. It is the best thing on the market & a value as well.

I would recommend either Clearasil oil blotting sheets or Biore rice paper blotting sheets to absorb the oil when it's not always easy to wash your face.
