Seeders are the people offering the file for download. Leechers are the people downloading the file.

A seeder is a person who has the entire file(s) on his computer, and is continuing to offer them for others do download.

A leecher is a person who only has part of the file(s), and is still downloading the rest. While he is downloading, the parts he already has are available for others to copy.

If you have a torrent with only leechers, it is possible that the torrent will never completely download, because no one person has the entire thing available. (Although it is possbile for one leech to have the first half, and the other the second half you still get the whole thing). However is you have 1 or seeders, then you should be able to download the entire thing.

You are a leecher when you are just downloading a file.

You are a seeder when you have the Full File, and instead of downloading you are just sharing to other people the file.

real quick:

seeders - uploading (has the file or parts of it, you become a seeder once you gather enough of the torrent to share)

leechers - downloading (you'll be considered a leech until you have the full file available to share. if you have part of the file you can be considered a seeder/leecher at the same time)

Seeders are torrent users who leave files out 'there' for people to download.

Leechers are those who only download other people's files but contribute nothing of their own.

Just as pepper was saying, when downloading, we are the leechers, but when uploading/finished downloading we become the seeders so that people can leech off of us. When looking for something to download, you lood for a larger amount of seeders for a quicker download

Seeders = The computers you are downloading from.
Leechers = The computers that do nothing but download from the above without giving back.

When you are downloading a file, you are a Leecher, meaning you are downloading, but still (should be) uploading, a seed means the person is done downloading, but is still running the torrent, to allow uploads, so all he is doing is uploading
