Not only is it illegal, you now can't download the Microsoft updates, you Grampa still can because it's his but if they find out he let you have it, he may also be in trouble.
Everytime Microsoft puts out patches and updates it scans your pc to make sure it's a valid registered version and it's registered to your grandpa's ip address not yours.
They will detect it as soon as you try to do an update on your pc.
Don't play games with microsoft products it's dangerous you could be hit with a very large financial penalty &/or go to jail.

You may have just given your Grampa and yourself a big headache.
Microsoft will recognize that you have one copy of Vista on two computers and will probably deactivate both copies. I believe they will send you a warning but I'm not positive of that.
Microsofts corporate software recognizes a persons computer by the hardware that is in it. When you installed in in your laptop, a different hardware configuration was sent to Microsoft. That is where your headache is going to come in. Each time either of you log on and your PC looks for MS Updates, two PCs will be seen with the same copy of Vista installed.
I think your best bet is to call Microsoft and try to make things right for your Grampa so they don't deactivate his "legal" copy of Vista.
Good luck.

No it isn't. If you want to be legal and don't want to pay for Vista, there are free Linux alternatives. I recommend them, they are better than MS products anyway.
