You'll see everything there from jeans to prom dresses. I, personally, like to dress up as I think it shows respect for the theatre. You could wear dress pants and a nice top or churchy dress or even a fancy dress. If you wanna get all cute and go all out - go for it! You won't look out of place. OR if you're gonna be in the city all day, wear some dress pants or a skirt that are more comfortable. And (I'm speaking from experience) wear comfy shoes because you'll do a lot of walking unless you are going straight to the theatre and that's it.

A Broadway show is a nice event but not too formal and not too casual. I don't know what clothing items you have but maybe a nice knee-length patterned skirt along with a cute shirt matching the major color on the skirt. For accessories maybe a small purse. Maybe black mary-Jane shoes or white strapped heels. If you want to add earings go for it. If this is too dressy for you then try a new pair of gouchos and a top that goes well. Shoes for this outfit might include brown heels.Try pulling your hair into a half pony tail. (pony tail but still some hair not in the pony-tail.)

Choose a dressy, but not formal, outfit in which you feel comfortable and confident. Although the attire of the audience may range from the occasional tuxedo to jeans and T-shirts, most attendees will go dressy casual.

Keep your suit on, men, if you plan to head to the theater straight from a business meeting. Otherwise, slip on slacks and pair with a lightweight sweater, sport coat and polished leather shoes.

If you're a woman, go from business day to dazzling evening attire by swapping your blouse for a sequin or satin shell. If you spent the day sight-seeing, change into a classic knit sheath dress or a skirt with a silk twinset. Pair with sling-back pumps.

Keep the clothing lightweight in the summer, as it stays hot and humid well into the evening. Men might consider dress slacks with a linen shirt and leather belt. Women will impress in a classic sundress and strappy sandals.

When I saw this question I was going to say "Depends on the show. For something like SPAMalot, I wouldn't worry too much, but if it's more romantic, such as the Phantom of the Opera, I'd wear black."

Wicked? Well, isn't that supposed to be comedy? Well, if so, just casual attire should do the trick, but nothing grungy or dirty.

Hope that helps!

While jeans are now pretty common at Broadway shows - even on Saturday nights - I would personally go with something a bit nicer. Wear something that looks good on you that you are comfortable in. Skirt, slacks, dress... but unless you want to, there's no need to get completely decked out.

If you DO go with jeans, do something nice on top to make it that "modern classy casual" look.

If it is truly on Broadway, you can get as dressed up as you like.

You can wear your best outfit, with as many spangles and bows as desired, even wear your highest high heels, since you will be seated for the performance.

Avoid hats with huge plumes or tall tops, however, and go easy on the loose accessories such as fans, sunglasses, and other easily-lost doodads.

For a weekend evening performance, you are suppose to dress up. I would wear a simple black dress, nothing too fancy or formal or a skirt. A pantsuit also works well. Or even black pants and a trendy, yet flattering and classy top.

These days, anything you want. But, considering the ticket prices, I'd get dressed up a little.
