Just imagine the acres and acres of land that will be used for cemetaries, and now everybody wants a memorial for whatever reason, using more acreage. Burn me up, throw it in the compost heap out back and fertilize a plant. I ain't gonna care. There is also a way to make someones ashes into gem stones, it's pretty cool, (and keeps you out of the human landfill)

I would like to be cremated. I grew up in the country on the land my grandfather was raised on. When I die, I want to be cremated and have my ashes spread at certain different points on the land - such as the pond where he took me fishing, the campsite my friends and I set up and use every summer, around the old barn that my cousins and I used to play in, and the creek where I used to swim. There's something very appealing to me about the thought that I could become a part of the land that I love so much. I know that in spirit we are set free to move on, but I still want my body to be in and on that land. It may be a weird way of looking at things, but hey, that's just me.

Cremation--I expect it and if there is an after-life I'll be pissed if I find out I got burried!

I would prefer my body be disposed of completely, not just shoved into the ground basically placed in storage-that has always seemed a bit sick and creepy to me. Especially when you look into the amount of money spent on it, in particular on preserving the body. Its a body!

Edit: Neglected to mention one thing--my organs will be harvested first-gotta help the others. My eyes may suck, but if theyre better than many other people's. Reuse what can be used, then destroy the rest.

Part of me wants to be cremated -- and my ashes taken to a particular part of the world -- on the off chance that it increases my chance of being reincarnated there.

But I don't put a whole lot of stock in that happening. What I do know for certain is that cremation releases all of the heavy metals and toxic junk we collect in our bodies (look for air quality studies, it's always worse around crematoria). It's bad enough that we live our lives as hazard waste reclamation units for industry, the least we can do is keep it contained.

At one time, I wanted to be cremated, as it was not only the way of my ancestors but cheaper for my family.
In looking at how much carbon is released into the air during a cremation, I'd be doing the planet a much better service by being buried (without chemical preservation) and just becoming fertilizer for the soil.

Right now, I really don't have a preference. If I were to die any time soon, cremation would probably make more sense because I'd like "to rest" near the city where I was born and raised, which is way across the continent from where I live now.

My daughter wants to cremate me, so I can always be with her. LOL. She is 9 years old and my only child. I think the people who are left to mourn us should decide. She is concerned that if she moves and I am in the ground, she can't take me with her. So as long as cremation is what she wants, then that is what I'll do.

I like your question :-)

In fact, I don't mind if my body is going to be cremated or buried. The very moment when I die, my perception and consciousness is not in the same flow as this physical body anymore and people can do what they like (including donating it to science or even to anyone who may need it... like organs, tissues and bones which may still be functional).

I prefer to be as useful as I can while being alive, cos' what matters most is today and while being able to do the things I feel good about, especially when it is of benefit to others. It wouldn't matter anymore when I am 'dead'... Its about living life to the fullest :-)

Cremated. Burying people is just taking up space with rotting carcasses.
