What is the difference between like
ja mata,
ja ne,
and just ja?

ja - is like saying "k" as in "ok" or just "later"
ja ne - more like, "okay then, later"
ja mata - is more like "until next time"

A verbatum translation from Japanese to English is difficult, but I think this is pretty close in meaning.

they means "see you later."

Ja mata = see you again.
Ja ne = good-bye. don't include means "again".
Ja = same and "Ja" is more close Than "Ja ne".

Ja mata ne. = See you later.
ki wo tsukete ne. = Take care.
Sugu ni aitai. = I want to see you soon.
Kondo itsu aeru? = When can I see you next time.
