Yes, you should avoid any wine - including communion wine. Any kind of alcohol can be enough to trip you up, even if it is just a sip and/or what is absorbed by the wafer (depending on the communion service at your church).

I would speak to the pastor about providing a non-alcoholic grape juice or you can take the wafer and then take the blessing at the wine, without taking a sip.

Congratulations on your sobriety. May God bless you and keep you all of your days.

If you have to, explain you have an allergy to alcohol. It is the way we deal with things. If you had an allergy to peanuts that made your throat close down and suffocate would you quibble about creamy or chunky. Allergy to all kinds of alcohol, including sacramental wine, cough syrup, vanilla extract.

Communion wine is a 'no no'. Anything that says it is "wine" contains alcohol and is to be avoided.

I'm not recovering or anything, but I am Catholic. I distribute the Body and Blood at Mass....I happen to know quite a few folks who are recovering and they do not consume the Blood.
I do know a lady who is in the same category, but she dips her Host in the Blood....which is a MAJOR no-no, according to Vatican II.
So, from my experience, people who are a few months sober to folks who are double-digit years sober to not partake.
I hope that helps.
BTW- good for you and good luck! ;-)

It's a BIG, FAT, NO-NO!
NO alcohol means NO alcohol...period...my church always uses grape juice for just this very reason....
God WILL understand why you don't drink the wine! I promise!

Don't drink it. God, you and your sponsor would be happier if you didn't drink it. Congrats on your sobriety.
