Not if he legitimately broke in.

You have a right to defend yourself and your property.

Using a sword would not be a good idea. For one thing, a sword doesn't have the stopping power of a gun. For another, sword wounds can be harder to deal with than a gunshot wound, and you could end up killing an unarmed intruder. Your best bet would be to purchase a small gun that you keep in a safe location for self defense. The modern law is more clear in that area.

In California you would go to jail for assault with a deadly weapon based on what you wrote. You said, "if I hide and hurt" means you had ample opportunity to evade instead of "hide" and they will convict you in the "great state" of California. Our laws say you must escape from the residence before using lethal or other force in defense of your life or property. Only if you "can't" escape the property may you use such force.

It depends if the man was armed at the time he broke in then it would be self defense no matter what type of weapon you use. If not you could be arrested for assault with a deadly weapon.

Just like guns, the left thinks that the weapon is at fault. Use your sword, but drag the perp inside before you call the cops.

Depends on your state's laws on self defense. Personally as a father of 2 small children if you break in my home I consider it suicide. Either you die or my kids my be hurt that is a no brainer and I will end you. Rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

You have to make sure the intruder in 100% INSIDE your house for it to be considered self defense. If any part of them is outside, then it doesn't matter what you used, you will be held accountable for it. Plus, it does depend what state you live in.

You might want to check the laws in your state but in most states if someone breaks into your home and threatens you, you are able to defend yourself by any means necessary. I would think that a sword would fall into this category although my personal choice is my moss berg. =) Happy hunting!

It depends where you live. Ever state has different definitions of self defense. Here in Arizona you would not be prosecuted. But I strongly recommend a gun for self defense.

yes as long as you are protecting your self kill the guy but keep in mind if you stab him for breaking in your house he will go to jail and you may not face criminal charges but he could sue you for any injuries you gave in a civil court and yes that is how are system works.
